I'm relentlessly competitive with a drive to succeed no matter the challenge. From summiting mountains to earning media and dominating the Settlers of Catan board, I genuinely enjoy the pursuit of a goal.While I've enjoyed many fun stops during my 16+ years as a professional, the story that describes me best comes from my time as a college athlete: I ran NCAA Division I track & field, but think more Rudy than Joe Montana. I transferred to Cal Poly from Santa Rosa Junior College and entered tryouts as an unrecruited walk-on. In other words, they didn't ask me to be there, I just showed up. That first tryout was an eye-opener. The runners in attendance knew each other from state championships and U.S. National Junior events. I hadn't done any of that, and to be honest, I got my ass kicked for six weeks before the coach mercifully cut me. I was fine being cut, but I wasn't going to quit. That next spring, I worked out with a former Cal Poly runner. We ran our workouts immediately following Cal Poly's practices. One day, Coach Crawford pulled me aside. She ultimately gave me two things: the summer workout plan, and a strong warning - you aren't guaranteed anything. She repeated that last part several times to make sure I understood.That summer, I woke up every day at 6am to lift weights, worked a part-time job at the Boys & Girls Club of Petaluma, and then went to the track for the evening workout. I didn't miss a single bullet point from the plan Coach Crawford handed to me earlier that spring, and the dedication paid off. I made that team.Throughout my career, I've taken this mentality to the worksite. I now play the role of Coach Crawford with The Olympic Club, but the drive continues no matter my role. I want to win. And I want to do it with an amazing team around me who matches that desire.
