I provide volunteer services as an emergency response team member at all kinds of incidents within my community. I can be deployed to serve at small incidents and large, complex incidents whether they are emergencies (including accidents, disasters, threats, or hazards) or planned events (including sporting or holiday events) to improve the interoperability of incident management. The priorities in planning, response and recovery efforts of incident management are: saving lives, stabilizing the incident, and protecting property and the environment. I am proud to serve.

In existence since September of 1950, the Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) works toward a State where people with disabilities have the opportunity to enjoy full and equal access to live lives of independence, productivity, and self-determination. GCPD makes policy recommendations to the Governor and Legislature on disability issues; promotes compliance with disability-related laws; promotes a network of local committees doing similar work; recognizes employers for hiring and retaining employees with disabilities; and recognizes media professionals and students for positively depicting Texans with disabilities. As GCPD's Research Specialist I plan, develop, coordinate and administer research projects on disability-related topics. This includes collecting, compiling, and analyzing research data about people with disabilities. The analysis of my research data that disclose gaps in state laws and services for people with disabilities formulate the findings of reports I prepare for this office. Constituent concerns and research findings are reviewed continuously and are synthesized each biennium into policy recommendations or proposed changes to state disability-related state laws and services for persons with disabilities forwarded to state legislators and the Governor as well as being made available to Constituents and other interested parties wishing to pursue changes in state law. Additional duties include reviewing state agency strategic plans, updating the agency website on changes to state law each legislative session, and disseminating disability-related information to constituents and stakeholders by providing technical assistance and information and referral services on 10 issue areas covered by the GCPD impacting people with disabilities : Access, Communications, Emergency Management, Health, Housing, Recreation, Transportation, Veterans and Workforce.

I managed the Equal Opportunity (EO) Compliance Unit within the Regulatory Integrity Division at the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). TWC ensures equal opportunity and equity of access for TWC customers through the administration and enforcement of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related nondiscrimination and equal opportunity statutes and regulations prohibiting discrimination in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. The EO unit conducts equal opportunity compliance reviews of the 28 Local Workforce Development Boards receiving pass-through federal funding from TWC. We examine 9 areas mandated under Section 188 of the WIOA to ensure Boards and their contractors meet programmatic and physical accessiblity obligations for all programs, services and activities funded under the Act as well as the nondiscrimination and equal opportunity provisions of other applicable state and federal laws. This includes oversight of architectural (built-environment) accessibility standards and the programmatic needs of customers with disabilities who may want to access the employment and training services at the nearly 200 workforce centers located throughout the state of Texas. As a certified ADA Coordinator, I provided needed technical assistance to the Boards on ADA and accessibility issues. Additionally, I determined jurisdiction and investigated discrimination complaints at the state-level for all forms of discrimination prohibited by Section 188, including race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, political affiliation or belief and certain bases particular to WIOA participants.Other responsibilities included providing financial technical assistance to the 28 local boards to ensure they used effective financial management controls over their federal financial resources.

I supervised the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) and the Credential Review Unit (CRU) for the Private Facilities Division within TDCJ. The FMU performed financial compliance reviews of privately contracted state jails, correctional facilities, pre-parole transfer facilities, halfway houses, and residential and outpatient treatment facilities located throughout Texas. The CRU performed required annual background checks on contractor employees within the state prison system, including secure and non-secure facilities providing services to probationers and parolees.
