Frans Bevers was tutor and head of the department of Architectural Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (1979-2007), and lectured at Parsons School of Design (NYC), Shanghai Normal University (Shanghai), East China Normal University (Shanghai), University of Illinois (Chicago), Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London (2014). From 2015-2019 he joined the teaching staff of the Royal Academy of Arts (The Hague) at the Master department Interior Design (INSIDE). From 2017-2020 he was teaching at Master department Contextual Design Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE).He was teaching at the DAE at the Master department Information Design from 2012-2024.

As a passionate cyclist I did some long distance rides on my roadbike: Den Store Styrkeproven Trondheim-Oslo (1988), Biarritz-Argeles sur Mer (1991), Zandvoort-Nice (1994), Land’s End - John o’ Groats (2012), Coast to Coast USA (2014), Neeltje Jans-Gibraltar (2016), Highland 500 Scotland (2019). I am member of 'Club des Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux' (2013). On our travelbikes with panniers Ingrid and I made long trips in a lot of European countries, Tunesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka.In 2019 I finished first in my age group at the World Championship GFNY (Gran Fondo New York), USA.I wrote ‘Dagboek Amerika’ (2015), Uitgeverij Lecturis/Dato, Eindhoven/Amsterdam and ‘Pijn in het Peloton’ (together with Pieter Cramer) (2018) De Arbeiderspers, Amsterdam.

Frans Bevers did receive the Jan Lucassen Award, 2018 (best teacher at the Design Academy Eindhoven) and the Piet Zwart Award, BNO, 2019 (lifetime achievement).In the period Frans Bevers was leading OPERA Amsterdam (with Lies Willers) the practice was nominated for a range of projects: Designprijs Rotterdam,1996 (Le Cri Neerlandais CD ROM), Dutch Design Award, 2001(National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden) Dutch Design Award, 2011 (Emma Children’s Hospital, Amsterdam and Ceramic Study Galleries, Victoria & Albert Museum London). Award-winning projects include: Lensvelt-De Architect Interior Prize, 2001 (National Museum of Ethnology), Dutch Design Award, 2004 (Hema pilot store), Inside Festival Barcelona, 2011 (Ceramic Study Galleries Victoria & Albert Museum).

Frans Bevers currently works as an independent curator, designer, consultant and tutor. Until 2012 he was co-director of OPERA Amsterdam, a design firm working in the field of interior architecture and exhibition design which he co-founded in 1981. The studio produces major exhibition designs and large-scale museum interiors as well as retail, office and interior designs for the health sector.
