In my early teenage years I found that it was difficult to get a reasonable job, I had no interest in earning minimum wage and I was to young to work anywhere. I started mowing a few of my neighbors lawns and as the years went on the business expanded rapidly. In the beginning it was a lot of door-to-door marketing, but after buying out a competitor in 2015 and numerous references from customers. The need to seek new customers diminished, the business had grown large enough for me to work full time and both my brothers part time which was all we could handle. Business grew because people liked the idea of a young man providing high quality work for a fair price. The expansion gave me new lawns and other opportunities for more seasonal work like leaf collection and snow plowing. Today we have 25 steady customers and continue to get a lot of extra jobs from recommendations.I have learned a great deal from my business, such as how to communicate with customers, scheduling time to complete jobs and recruiting workers to make sure the job was completed within the required time frame. I learned how to manage my time between school, sports, church, and social time with friends and family. I grew as a leader and learned some important lessons on how to lead people such as when it was appropriate to delegate work and when to step in and lead. Overall the business provided me many opportunities to supply the means to enjoy my self growing up and taught me alot along the way. Show less
