The density of datacenters, ubiquitous availability of network connectivity fueled by the presence of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange is a great opportunity for students to become part of the fast growing hosting and cloud industry in the Netherlands.The Cloud IT Academy (CITA) together with the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht has developed a bachelor education in Cybersecurity and Cloud and similar offering in Software Development, where students can work in a company in our sector for 3 to 4 days per week and learn theory in school for 1 day per week. CITA recruits students in MBO and builds a community of companies where the students can work and learn for four years while the students build the skills and knowledge that is required for their bachelor’s degree. After graduating, our partners offer our students an interesting place to work and a quick start in their careers.CITA is a succesful example of a Publiek-Private-Samenwerking (PPS) in the Netherlands with its roots in the industry associations Dutch Cloud Community, DINL and NLDigital.A supervisory board of hosting, cloud and software development companies has been formed to support the implementation of the program. I am the chair of this board.

Dutch Cloud Community is an industry association for cloud and hosting companies. DCC is the result of the merger between ISP Connect, for which I was already a board member, and the Dutch Hosting Provider Association (DHPA).My focus areas as a boardmember of DCC were standardisation, education and security and public affairs.

On behalf of Dutch Cloud Community, I was a boardmember for Stichting Digitale Infrastructuur Nederland (DINL).

ISPConnect was the industry association for hosters and cloud providers in The Netherlands.I find an industry association very important to enable knowledge and information sharing and to facilitate cooperation between its members. ISPConnect was a mature association with over 80 members.My focus areas as a boardmember of ISPConnect were standardisation, education and security.ISP Connect and DHPA merged into Dutch Cloud Community in 2021.

Designed around your core business, the availability of your online services is continually monitored and first line questions and issues will be immediately addressed and resolved. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.Your online services are crucial for your customers. Your services need to be continually available, your organization must always be reachable and above all your employees must immediately act to address any disruptions. For this reasons you have engineers on standby. Though you have SLAs where every second counts, even your best employees can be late or too busy to make good on your promises every time.With a 24x7 staffed NOC you will be guaranteed someone is always alert and can act immediately. To guarantee a 24x7 coverage you need at least 12-14 FTE. This requires significant costs, not to mention extra effort required by your organization for planning, education and HRM.
