The hosting and cloud industry in the Netherlands is ideally positioned as the digital gateway to Europe. The density of datacenters, ubiquitous availability of network connectivity fueled by the presence of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange is a great opportunity for students to become part of the fast growing hosting and cloud industry in the Netherlands.The Cloud IT Academy (CITA) together with the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht has developed a bachelor education in Cybersecurity and Cloud and similar offering in Software Development, where students can work in a company in our sector for 3 to 4 days per week and learn theory in school for 1 day per week. CITA recruits students in MBO and builds a community of companies where the students can work and learn for four years while the students build the skills and knowledge that is required for their bachelor’s degree. After graduating, our partners offer our students an interesting place to work and a quick start in their careers.CITA is a succesful example of a Publiek-Private-Samenwerking (PPS) in the Netherlands with its roots in the industry associations Dutch Cloud Community, DINL and NLDigital.A supervisory board of hosting, cloud and software development companies has been formed to support the implementation of the program. I am the chair of this board.

ISPConnect was a mature association with over 80 members.My focus areas as a boardmember of ISPConnect were standardisation, education and security.ISP Connect and DHPA merged into Dutch Cloud Community in 2021.

Your services need to be continually available, your organization must always be reachable and above all your employees must immediately act to address any disruptions. For this reasons you have engineers on standby. Though you have SLAs where every second counts, even your best employees can be late or too busy to make good on your promises every time.With a 24x7 staffed NOC you will be guaranteed someone is always alert and can act immediately. To guarantee a 24x7 coverage you need at least 12-14 FTE. This requires significant costs, not to mention extra effort required by your organization for planning, education and HRM.
