Currently, the primary focus is The George Centre, a new state-of-the-art private maternity/paediatric hospital in Southwest Sydney. I provide advice on business transactions including commercial leases, retail leases, licenses for sessional suites, goods and services agreement and promotion and marketing materials. There was a plethora of documentation that needed for hospital accreditation such as by-laws, code of conduct, BCP and disaster and emergency plans. Effective governance is critical so a compliance program was integrated into the procurement process.

As Group General Counsel, I was responsible for providing legal and commercial advice and counsel across a broad range of disciplines in multiple jurisdictions. As well as setting up entities around the world, I also managed the construction of two central labs in Bangkok and Sydney. While preparations were initiated for an IPO, this was never completed although the process was engaging! I took on the role of interim CEO and managed the company with the support of a team of enthusiastic, dedicated professionals. Faced with challenging times, I adopted a structured approach to change management, reducing costs, tackling legacy issues, resetting customer expectations and promoting a culture of inclusion.

NPS MedicineWise enables people to make better decisions about medicines and medical choices. With over 20 years of experience in positively influencing behaviours, knowledge and attitudes of consumers and health professionals through targeted, audience centric campaigns, educational programs and quality improvement activities that address identified quality use of medicines and medical test issues. Leading a team of 3, I was accountable for providing advice and counsel to the Board and Executive Leadership team. I also chaired the Risk Management Committee managing legal and risk in data and information security. Highlights include facilitating the establishment of a commercial entity under the NPS umbrella tasked with pursuing alternative revenue streams, advising on data security and governance frameworks to enable collaboration with health providers and research organisations.

As a member of the APAC Leadership Team, I provided advice and counsel to 15 country MD's and As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, I provided legal advice to 15 country MD's, business leaders and department heads to support business expansion in both mature and emerging markets. As principal regional counsel, I managed all high value transactional activities, litigation, negotiations and commercial agreements. A key aspect of this role was leading and mentoring legal teams across the Asia Pacific region, with a particular focus on uplifting commercial capabilities to build a function that proactively supported strategic business development. Key achievements include successfully defended businesses against complex litigation (both civil and criminal), securing critical asset protection to continue operations. Achieved a legal excellence award in recognition of exemplary contributions. Provided advice and counsel for M&A, JV and divestments across regional jurisdictions, successfully negotiating agreements to secure manufacturing presence in China, India, Korea and Singapore. I developed and implemented an Ethics & Compliance Program to support market expansion that was subsequently adopted as a global program.

Based in Thailand responsible for advising on expansion into emerging APAC markets. By successfully navigating local jurisdictions, I managed negotiations with government entities to establish JV agreements that supported the organisation in achieving its strategic priorities with maximum profit and minimal risk. Undertook extensive restructuring of China operations involving converting joint ventures into WFOEs, consolidation through site closures and divestment of assets. Required extensive negotiations with State authorities and labour unions as well as managing expectations at the corporate level. This project established an efficient manufacturing footprint in China specifically and APAC regionally, a lower cost base and a streamlined distribution network.

July 1994 - July 1999 (5 years 1 month) As counsel for the UK, Southern Europe and Middle East jurisdictions, I provided advice on all legal, regulatory and compliance issues including transactional activities, commercial agreements and IP protection. Partnering with business leaders, I effectively balanced commercial aspirations with risk management to support business growth into new markets. I significantly reduced legal costs by managing legal issues in-house, and engaged with various competition authorities to deliver consolidation and divestment activities.

Responsible for all commercial transactions in Europe, Middle East and Africa, including sponsorship and promotions for major international sporting events such as the Olympic Games, Winter Olympics and Rugby World Cup. Lead counsel for European marketing campaigns such as the award-winning “Welcomes Visa” promotions, which reached over 100 million cardholders.
