  • Bag-Era
    Co-Founder And Cto
    Bag-Era Jul 2016 - Apr 2022
    Perpignan, Occitanie, Catalogne, France
Bag-Era proposes software solutions which ensure the consistency of heterogeneous distributed systems composed of software and hardware components even in case of failure of some of these components or communication links.Because the issue in "IoT", "Cloud", "Distributed systems", "Systems of systems" is not only about connecting objects but it is also about keeping the system consistent. After more than two decades of research in the area, it was time to create a start-up, which aim is to use/transfer the acquired expertise to build robust, secure and consistent systemsBecause, we are as humans, just in the middle of the systems and personally I would prefer to avoid inconsistencies because I have no idea how to reboot a building, a factory or a city ;-)Thus, making these systems diverging is not an option. Bag-Era is a start-up from IRT nanoelec and CEA-Leti

  • Cea/Leti
    Research Engineer
    Cea/Leti Feb 2009 - Jul 2016
    Grenoble Area, France
Joined early 2009 CEA-LETI to help the creation of a new software team.Involved initially in the activities surrounding programming tools for multicore systems, I coordinated the Artemis project SMECY till the beginning of 2013.In parallel, I continued research into middleware for sensor/actuator networks, and this is still my main research interest when other activities leave me some time. The fruit of this research is an environment called LINC which is used in several projects. The main added value of LINC is to go a step further in the management of sensor/actuator networks by offering higher level mechanisms to coordinate them.Interconnection is necessary in a network, but not enough if you want to upgrade "a chattering set of devices and applications" to "a coordinated and cooperating group behaving in a coherent, scalable and reliable way".To make an analogy between the coordination of sensors and actuators and football team management:Without coordination, strategy and cooperation, the football team stays in the bus instead of scoring goals. For sensors, actuators and software components it is exactly the same; LINC can help you get out of the bus and reach your goals!
  • Xerox Research Centre Europe
    Senior Scientist
Xerox Research Centre Europe 1995 - Feb 2009
    Grenoble Area, France
I joined the research staff of the Coordination Technologies area in Nov. 1995 where I participated to the design and implementation of different projects before taking the lead of the Coordination Language Facility team. CLF is a distributed objects platform on which I initiate several projects in the fields of electronic commerce, workflow and knowledge sharing. In 2000, the research activities where focused towards Contextual Computing and Device Intermediation and the former CLF team focused its research activities to another middleware platform (STITCH), the logical evolution of CLF, more oriented to the coordination of services, mobile devices, sensors and actuators. End of 2003, the activities on middleware have been stopped to concentrate on Xerox core activities. I joined the Machine Learning group with the mission of using my expertise in distributed systems to bring solutions to scalability issues in the frame of document management. In this frame I designed and implemented a distributed large scale document categorizer able to manage thousands of categories. I also designed a parallel version of a statistical translation system (training and translation).
