Research Engineer undertaking an Engineering Doctorate degree with Loughborough University's Centre for Innovative and Collaborative Engineering (CICE) and Buro Happold working in the Smart Team. My research is focused on healthcare efficiency and patient experience and the development of tools for industry to help design and plan buildings and layouts to improve the efficiency and experience.Some responsibilities include overseeing development of tools that fall into my research areas and also other tools for the team, as well as working on developments myself.Although the focus of my doctorate is engineering through CICE and Buro Happold being an engineering company, I am keen to bridge the gap between computing and engineering to automate processes currently done by hand through my background as a Computer Scientist.In my time with the Smart Space team I have developed a range of analysis tools and published a number of academic papers on the research I have undertaken. Example tools include SmartCounter, a computer vision tool for obtaining occupancy and dwell time figures from hospital waiting areas from video footage without the need of a physical observer present. This tool utilised the OpenCV libraries for C++, while the GUI was developed using the WPF libraries for C#.Additionally I developed the primary analysis engine used in the Grasshopper tool 'SmartSpaceAnalyser' in 2014/2015, a spatial analysis tool used by the Smart Space team for analysing building designs. More recently, I developed the wayfinding signage recommendation tools that aim to provide signage recommendations based on a travelers natural path, and identifying where the natural path may deviate from the desired path. This tool was the focus of the academic paper "A tool for signage placement recommendation in hospitals based on wayfinding metrics", published in the Indoor and Built Environment journal in early 2017.
