Unfortunately I don't have any fancy hobbies to write about here. I never almost became a professional football player, or got a handicap in golf.I have however been very fortunate to get to travel the world, growing up in various oil industry hotspots including Houston, London, Singapore, Dubai and of course Aberdeenshire. Somehow life seems to be repeating itself, and in my career I ended up back in Aberdeen and now back to Houston! Fortunately with work I get to occasionally visit some of the other places I've lived, and it is great seeing how things have changed, certainly some have changed a lot more than others.One of the best parts about living around the world was being able to travel around each of the different regions and experiencing a wide range of cultures. One region I've not seen much of is South America and a tour across a few countries there is definitely on the bucket list. It feels a bit closer to reality now we life in the USA, although our young children could be the blocker for a few years yet.Being an ex-pat shaped who I am today. Watching old home videos is always a laugh getting to hear all the different accents I've had. Within about 3 years I went from broad Scottish, into Londoner, into strong Texan y'all! My eldest child had just begun to speak and get his own little Scottish accent, but after a couple of months in Texas there's already the Texan twang coming through.I don't think anyone was surprised when I decided I wanted to be an engineer after growing up surrounded by the oil industry and seeing the benefits of an ex-pat life. So university brought me back to Scotland to study as a Mechanical Engineer at Edinburgh, and since qualifying moved back up to rural Aberdeenshire to my original hometown to work at ACE Winches as an engineer. Paying homage to one of my idols, "I'll be back" is a fitting phrase for coming full circle back to where it all began. In July 2022 I received my first overseas posting back to Houston with the family, just like we did when I was 8 years old.In Aberdeenshire, I ended up settling down with a local girl whose father was a photographer and took a baby photo of me over 35 years ago (serendipity??).My life now revolves around my young boys and my dog (and wife) and squeezing in a holiday whenever possible!This is a little bit about my life story, and I'd like to hear about yours, so I look forward to connecting with you.
