I sit on the Scottish Financial Enterprise (SFE) YP Steering Committee, whose aim is to support the growth of future talent in Scotland’s Financial Services industry through the SFE members. The SFE YP Network is the representative body for the next generation of talented financial leaders. The aim is to provide opportunities for networking, career development and promote the industry to increase skills, knowledge transfer and collaboration.

After displaying my abilities at working well as part of the team in the kitchen I was promoted to a role of leadership and increased responsibility. I have been promoted from within the company twice as I continually strove to improve my skills within the company and take every opportunity to better myself within the workplace. The job involved working well under pressure within a team of seven in order to complete service. Working in this environment has allowed me to develop my skills at working well under pressure as part of an effective team but also in a leadership position within a team, but also being in a position of responsibility. As a leader I communicate very well and always strive to create an open work environment. This helped me to develop strong relations with those I work with, both within our business and in client/supplier relations. Throughout this also meant there was a level of stock control and financial matters that were my responsibility, for example dealing with suppliers and presenting myself at company meetings with targets that I was meeting. I did this job full time whenever possible throughout university but always at the least part time with at least 30 hours per week in order to fund myself for university. My time management had to be good in this respect with combining the rigours of near full-time employment whilst obtaining my university degree. I always maintained a high level of flexibility and willingness to work at short notice.
