About Frauke Luft

Ir. Ph.D (Biomedical Engineering), interested in physiology, especially cardiology, neurophysiology and rehabilitation, movement analysis and imaging technologies, such as electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Currently I am working at Finapres Medical Systems B.V. as a clinical research specialist.I finished my bachelor and masters degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente. Furthermore, I completed an internship at the University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark.My PhD project was part of the Movement Diagnostic System. The goal of this project was to develop a diagnostic system that captures abnormal brain activations in patients with tremor and dystonia compared to healthy controls, combining functional MRI, electrophysiological measurements and a wrist perturbator to manipulate the motor control system. I defended my thesis "Shaking hands - establishing objective parameters to differentiate between Essential tremor and Parkinson's disease" in 2020.As a Clinical Research Specialist, I am responsible for connecting the clinical need with the technology of the Finapres products!I am fluent in German, Dutch and English and always interested in new challenges.

The goal of this project is to develop a system that captures abnormal brain activations in patients with tremor and dystonia compared to healthy controls, combining functional MRI, EEG, EMG, accelerometers and a wrist perturbator to manipulate the motor control system.Amongst other things my responsibilities in this project was the setup and carrying out the experiments. I completed a 6 month internship at the University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark where I validated a new Functional Lumen Imaging Probe (FLIP) for dynamic and segmental description of mechanical properties of the anal canal in vitro and in healthy subjects and fecal incontinent patients. My main responsibility was validating the probe in vitro, supporting the research nurse during patient experiments and to write the Matlab scripts for data analysis. This research report was graded with a 9 (Dutch grading system).
