For generations the wealth of nations has come from fossil fuels. We extract and burn, blissfully unaware of how dependent we are on the burning. I have seen a sweeping change in attitudes the last few years - now everyone wants to go Green. But there is pain in the change - its hard to compete with the sheer power of fossil fuel, and the enormous industrial scale. I'm an Engineer - I want to get things working, get them made, set up a factory! If we are really going to deal with climate change then we need mass-production on a vast scale.In my many previous lives.....I sold my services as a Consultant Design Engineer for 12 years, specialising in innovative electro-mechanical products. One of my most interesting consultancy jobs was the design and safety testing of the powerfan descent device www.powerfan.co.ukI spent 10 years designing underwater life support equipment, and carried out research for DSTL to extend the underwater capability of our special forces.I started my career as an apprentice in the Naval dockyards, then studied for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have taken many novel products from concept to production. Several of my designs have been patented. I keep fit and active by Sea kayaking, and train novice paddlers for Poole Harbour Canoe club.
