My master’s research is over medieval retellings of the legend of Troy. My love affair with this subject matter began in the fourth grade when my grandfather, like the Lady of the Lake holding Excalibur aloft, bestowed upon my brother and me his well-worn paperback editions of the Iliad and the Odyssey. I spent the next few years consuming various retellings of Homer's works before eventually tackling verse translations of the epics themselves. Homer led me to the subsequent canon of Western Literature, and I quickly realized that beginning with the Iliad, a thread connects most of the canon: Troy. My thesis examines the importance of Troy and its impact on Western concepts of virtue. I plan to further my research in a doctoral program.Currently, I’m a Senior Graduate Admissions Officer at the University of North Texas in Denton. This position relies on strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously. I strategize and execute many on-campus visits and events, especially two Graduate School Previews each year. Ultimately, I cherish most the connections I form with students from all over the country as I help them find the right path to achieving their dreams.Lastly, I am a published novelist. My debut novel, The Lost King, was released in November of 2020 through FyreSyde Publishing, a local press. It is a 98,000-word epic fantasy inspired by ancient epics like Homer’s.
