I worked with a community college in Wyoming to evaluate the need for and development of an advanced manufacturing program in precision machining.

I conducted research that determined the most needed advanced manufacturing skills in Southwest Connecticut and worked with manufacturers and educational institutions to ensure that the programs met the needs of the manufacturing companies.

The project to develop a plan for the FRCC Center for Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is complete. A 27,000 square foot building has been leased and is being renovated. In the Fall of 2019 four programs will be housed at the CIM:- Precision Machining- Optics Technology- Automation & Engineering Technology- Electronics Engineering TechnologyMy role is to direct the activities and programs at the CIM to insure that all students and local businesses have an excellent experience in their interaction with our advanced manufacturing programs, staff and faculty.

- Selected to manage a project team evaluating the start of a number of new manufacturing related programs that would necessitate campus expansion. Conducted industry focus groups with over 60 employers, analysed labor-market data, determined required equipment budget and made recommendation to Cabinet for the start of eight new programs.- The outcome was to start the planning process to start the program with the biggest local need, industrial maintenance. Led additional discussions with employers, refined the program structure, equipment estimates, labor-market data and made additional recommendations to Cabinet.

The Precision Machining Technology program at Front Range Community College was developed with the assistance of a US Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance training grant. I led my project team in the accomplishment of the following objectives:- Provided leadership to Colorado Community College System and other statewide machining programs in developing the grant proposal.- Budgeted and disbursed $4.2 million in Federal funds including: - $1.5 million in shop equipment. - $300,000 in shop supplies and services. - Employer driven curriculum development for 19 courses. - Hired and directed staff including faculty, shop, and program specific student services. - Exceeded grant deliverables for student participants (489) and student earned credentials (593).- Program attained National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) accreditation and was endorsed by the Manufacturing Institute M-List.- Reacting to employers' requests to upgrade students' "soft skills", developed a program that embedded professionalism into all machining courses.

Selected by the President of FRCC to provide leadership to this cross functional team that advises Cabinet on the content and implementation of the 5-year strategic plan.

Fort Collins, Colorado Area

Businesses in Northern Colorado are expanding and are being challenged by the lack of qualified job applicants. In many cases, they are unable to meet their customers' demand due to an inability to hire enough trained employees. Front Range Community College is meeting their needs by increasing the number of programs and aligning existing programs with the needs of business. - Conducted an employer led assessment of the Architectural Engineering & Construction program and recommended course changes to the AAS degree that will provide more relevant training.- Evaluated the Horticulture and Landscape Technologies program and recommended course changes.- Interviewed employers and assessed the need to start a machining program in Northern Colorado. Developed a collaborative relationship with the local school district and negotiated an agreement to utilize their machine shop to start a part-time machining program. Hired instructors and marketed the program. Trained 89 new machinists in 16 months.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area

Company is $9 million manufacturer of irrigation pumping systems.- Increased sales of pumping systems from $2.1 million/year to $6.9 million/year. Led Florida market in sales and number of units, greatly exceeding management's expectations. Conducted a segmentation analysis and concentrated on the highly profitable residential market.- Planned and implemented introduction of the industry's first internet based irrigation management system (Hoover Flowguard). Directed a project to create the Hoover Flowguard website and e-newsletter linked to the existing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. - Solicited customer feedback on service quality resulting in the persuasion of the executive team to overhaul service department processes and personnel. Service department revenue and customer satisfaction increased.- During severe business downturn and intensified price competition in 2009, spearheaded development and introduction of product with reduced cost and features. Unit gross margin increased 30% offsetting lower sales volumes.
