The Precision Machining Technology program at Front Range Community College was developed with the assistance of a US Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance training grant. I led my project team in the accomplishment of the following objectives:- Provided leadership to Colorado Community College System and other statewide machining programs in developing the grant proposal.- Budgeted and disbursed $4.2 million in Federal funds including: - $1.5 million in shop equipment. - $300,000 in shop supplies and services. - Employer driven curriculum development for 19 courses. - Hired and directed staff including faculty, shop, and program specific student services. - Exceeded grant deliverables for student participants (489) and student earned credentials (593).- Program attained National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) accreditation and was endorsed by the Manufacturing Institute M-List.- Reacting to employers' requests to upgrade students' "soft skills", developed a program that embedded professionalism into all machining courses.

Front Range Community College is meeting their needs by increasing the number of programs and aligning existing programs with the needs of business. - Conducted an employer led assessment of the Architectural Engineering & Construction program and recommended course changes to the AAS degree that will provide more relevant training.- Evaluated the Horticulture and Landscape Technologies program and recommended course changes.- Interviewed employers and assessed the need to start a machining program in Northern Colorado. Developed a collaborative relationship with the local school district and negotiated an agreement to utilize their machine shop to start a part-time machining program. Hired instructors and marketed the program. Trained 89 new machinists in 16 months.
