(condensed due to character limit - msg for rest of story)I've been involved in technology professionally for approximately 28 years now - started in 1995.I first remember being exposed to technology in 5th grade. Back then it was TRS-80's and Apple IIe's. If I'm remembering correctly those TRS-80's were connected together, daisy chain style (serial I believe) to a "master" computer that had a pair of floppy drives that served as the load computer for all of the units connected. It was like magic to type in (I don't remember exactly, that was a long time ago) some variant of CLOAD and watch the asterisks blink in the corner of the screen, and a few minutes later - the program ran! As the years went on I tried to take as many computer classes as I could to continue to be around these interesting devices. Had the opportunity in my senior year of high school to participate in the business education program where you'd go to high school half a day, and work at a local business for half a day. From there I continued to gain knowledge and experience, worked in a few interesting industries from an ISP, fintech, and manufacturing.There's too many different areas of technology to be an expert in all of it, but I do like to say I know a little bit of something about everything. From Asterisk PBX to Z/OS on the mainframe, I've seen a vast array of technology in my career and plenty in between. A good deal of technology just borrows concepts from the past, so if you know the basic concepts, you can learn most anything. A spreadsheet is a spreadsheet no matter if it's Excel, Lotus, or OpenOffice - it's all the same concepts under the hood. Putting an IP address on a device is the same concept regardless if it's a PC, a Doosan CNC, PLC logic controller, or Raspberry Pi. DOS, Windows, various Unix, Linux, OpenVMS - these are just a few (not complete) of the operating systems I've had exposure to.Technology is enjoyable and dare I say fun to me. There's no better feeling than figuring out a problem - seeing that long range wireless link finally start passing data. Working on a custom project to automate inventory and seeing the effort and testing work you put in actually get results. Crafting a project that can be duplicated at multiple sites that ends up saving the company time and/or money. Working with a team of folks that all share an enjoyment of technology, we all work together toward the end goal - being able to sit back and enjoy the success of a project.
