During this time, I was the recipient of numerous research grants and stipends which allowed me to pursue a focus in analytical chemistry. Being awarded the honor of Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Fellow and Scholar in my first year provided me the opportunity to develop an HPLC method to study the inhibitory effects of Prunella Vulgaris tea extract on MCF-7 breast cancer cells using UV detection. In subsequent years, I would go on to be a part of multiple other projects through the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program among others. During the REU program, we created a "Day of Science" for the underprivileged elementary schoolers in our area and hosted a research symposium between ourselves and various nearby colleges and universities.Many of the projects that were completed or significantly advanced during my master's program began during my time as an undergraduate research assistant.
