The East Bay

O'Shaughnessy's was co-founded by Tod Mikuriya, MD. Our goal was to provide a publication in which Cannabis clinicians could share findings and observations, and be kept abreast of relevant scientific and political developments. We had in mind a cross between Scientific American, where I'd once been an editor, and a defense committee leaflet (because he was under investigation by the state medical board). Tod died in May 2007; the doctors' group he organized, the Sociey of Cannabis Clinicians, is now run by Jeffrey Hergenrather, MD. I've been covering the ongoing story at beyondthc.com. We're planning to bring out back issues in a series of e-books called The O'Shaughnessy's Reader.

The Inner Sunset

A weekly tabloid staffed and edited by students from the UCSF Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing, plus the occasional postdoc. I was the hired gun who made sure it came out on time. Every year I got to work closely with a new group of wonderful young men and women, most of whom are now in their 40s.
