I was born and raised in upstate central New York State. It was small town America, a place called Watkins Glen, NY in the "50's and '60's. It is situated in the beautiful Finger Lakes region, at the southern end of Seneca Lake. It was a great childhood. We had a State Park to play in year round, with a 1.5 mile gorge, stream and waterfalls. My parents worked hard to provide for us, though it was never easy. In high school I was active in sports as a Manager for our track team for 3 years, and co-MVP of our Swim Team my Senior year ( the 1st year we had one ). Being part of a team was ingrained in me back then, because I saw my brother as a star athlete for 4 years, and my middle sister as a Cheerleader and a Cheerleader Coach for 4 years also.I watched my mother and dad begin a small networking business, but they gave up on it too soon. Long hours at his job and 2 hours a day to and from work I guess beat him down. My mom also was a "home party demonstrator" for a toy company. That is where 99.9% of our Christmas came from each year. But, again, I saw the example of WORK for what you wanted. I think this was the original "gig" economy. People come to LinkedIn for different reasons. My thought is that MOST come here to connect with people in other areas and industries. They also are preparing for that time when they are no longer involved with whatever current field or company they are with.What we seek in a partner are: ambition, accountability and the willingness to accept and, most importantly, USE mentorship as provided.
