  • Independent Pricing And Regulatory Tribunal
    Analyst
Independent Pricing And Regulatory Tribunal Apr 2012 - Jan 2015
    Sydney, Australia
From January 2011 to January 2015, I worked at IPART, the economic regulator in NSW, Australia. In this role, I worked on reviews in a variety of industries and subject areas, including, taxis, public transport, the rationale and design of licensing in NSW, the method of rent determination for domestic waterfront tenancies (e.g., private wharves) and general reviews of IPART's regulatory framework. I undertook complex economic analysis and modelling, particularly related to the public transport and taxi industries. For example, I contributed heavily to the analysis of the external benefits of public transport and the corresponding regulatory framework to assess fares. I researched and integrated information and economic theory from multiple sources, which included, internet and archive research, interacting with stakeholders and consultants, interpreting legislation, integrating stakeholder submissions, and independent academic research. I built, improved and updated financial models which formed the basis of the analysis presented to our Tribunal. This included large excel models of the taxi industry, the external benefits of public transport and other industries. I wrote and contributed to briefings for our Tribunal (decision making body). In these briefings, I made recommendations and set out the arguments to support the recommended course of action. I also contributed to drafting public documents, such as final and draft reports, and internal working papers. I presented verbal briefings to senior management and the Tribunal to help them make decisions. I gave presentations, including internal peer reviews and training classes for the organisation. I managed stakeholder relationships, including being the point of contact with our consultants.
