Responsible for delivery of key business functionality as part of the company’s next generation health care operations platform. This new platform is a highly configurable, integrated system aligned to be the future platform for UHG operational functions. Directly managed 5 Director and Sr. Director level reports who represented more than 150 individuals and 6 different functional domains - Member Eligibility/Enrollment, Member Group/Migration, Product and Configuration, Finance, Fulfillment, and Oracle Financials. These teams have successfully delivered upon multiple major program milestones that aligned to business migrating to this new platform at specified timeframes. Responsible for approximately $30 million of annual software development, and support capacity. Leadership responsibility for the legacy platform suite of applications for which business is being migrated from. This effort ensures a cohesive member experience for members in the NY, NJ, and CT markets while business is being migrated to the new platform upon group renewal milestones. Devised a comprehensive, multi-year ramp-down plan for the resources working on this platform.

Responsible for all aspects of delivery of application integration components as part of a major initiative for the corporation to stand up a new line of business in less than one calendar year. This multi-million dollar program utilized Scaled Agile Framework to organize the development of software, the installation and integration of multiple software packages and business readiness. Managed multiple integration scrum teams supporting API development between mobile, web-based, and legacy systems. This program built out a "Next Generation" platform and development model. State-of-the-art API development and management technologies, DevOps tools and procedures, and NoSQL databases were central to the success of the program. The entire program was implemented on schedule and was deemed a major success for the company.Successfully managed multiple development teams in the delivery of application integration components for multiple lines of business. Successfully delivered scheduled quarterly releases with development effort of greater than 35,000 hours in support of multiple key business initiatives including new client customization, regulatory and compliance initiatives. Total project portfolio averaged between $10-15 million annually. All projects followed a strict CMMI-based methodology. All projects in specialty pharmacy followed an Agile development methodology incorporating a 3 week sprint schedule.

Led the Pharmacy application development teams through major systems changes to accommodate an organizational strategic partner initiative with a major Pharmacy Benefits Manager. This initiative involved significant strategic systems changes, planned application shut-downs, and significant new application development. Team included 4 application development managers with staffing levels at peak times reaching 120+ resources.Partnered with other internal technology organizations to develop strategic application planning blueprints for Aetna’s pharmacy business.Initiated process improvement controls to improve the reliability of one of the major mainframe applications supporting pharmacy processing. Successfully brought the weekly average number of abnormal job terminations into alignment with guidelines over a 2 month time period.

Led the application development function through all phases of the development life cycle for a strategic application to streamline the processing of eligibility and funding of Health Savings Accounts (HSA). The application was developed using Java/J2EE, DB2, and a very rigid application development framework. Responsible for the professional development for 65 direct reports. Specific duties included the creating of development plans, organization of training programs for the organization, performance management, hire/fire responsibilities, and consultative role with Senior Management regarding organizational alignment and structure.

Senior-level Director responsible for application development within the consumer directed health care function of United Health Group. Leadership of system development activities relating to the integration of Definity Health into United Health Group. Program ownership of multiple, large scale IT initiatives totaling over $5 million in development capital. Responsible for management of an organization consisting of 7 managers and over 50 individuals - including application architecture, development and quality assurance. Worked with the development team to merge an Agile development organization into the structured methodologies employed by United Health Group.

Senior department management position, reporting to the Executive Vice President. Responsible for the commercial lending initiatives which included the ownership of two large, 10 million dollar projects in the commercial lending area. Complete staffing, steering committee reporting, and budgetary responsibilities for these initiatives. Managed staff of approximately 60 individuals, including three development managers. Technology platform was a mix of purchased packaged applications and custom .Net development.Led the strategic development of the bank’s Application Infrastructure Development Frameworks. The team built common Java and .Net frameworks which were used by over 100 web-based applications. This allowed for significant cost savings in the form of reuse, shortened development times, improved production quality and consolidation of support. This team was also responsible for spearheading the introduction of Service Oriented Architecture principles into the bank’s development frameworks.

Responsibilities included staff management of over twenty developers and support personnel, project ownership for multiple capitalized initiatives, maintenance and support ownership of over ten separate applications, team workload prioritization, and budgetary responsibility. Technology platform was a mix of packaged applications and custom Java/J2EE development. Specific business benefits achieved through successful delivery included the ability for the Trust department to offer local check printing capabilities, thus achieving competitive advantages, significant growth of the commercial paper trading business, and the Mutual Fund Servicing area to achieve record-setting client growth. Project manager for large acquisition and integration initiative for the small ticket leasing organization. Hand-picked by an Executive VP to head up the development staff of a “rescue team” to re-plan the project and deliver a successful implementation. Responsibilities included development management of the lease origination, document generation and document imaging teams. Developed completely new project plan, re-staffed the project, and managed the initiative to a successful implementation according to the newly revised project plan. This implementation directly contributed to the business line achieving record-setting sales goals.Project manager and overall responsibility for an online Trust statement reporting application. Was hired into the company to take over responsibility of this troubled project. The initiative involved the shutting down a development staff in another location, re-planning the remainder of the project, hiring a completely new staff, and delivering a very technically challenging application. The application was delivered on the new schedule, within budget, and continues to be a cornerstone for the offerings of the Trust department of USBank.

Managed a team of consultants while contributing to revenue as a billable resource. Responsibilities included retention, performance planning and support for consulting staff. Additional responsibilities included participation in business development and the development of strategic business partnerships.While consulting at Sun Country Airlines, analyzed and documented business processes in coordination with the implementation of the SABRE reservation system. This included developing new business practices and managing the upgrade of the public sales web site. Responsibilities included project plan development, issues management, status reporting, and design of the new site. This major effort was accomplished on an extremely aggressive schedule. Managed a team of up to 25 developers in the customization of a new customer loyalty system for Northwest Airlines. Responsibilities included budget preparation, project scheduling, issue tracking, QA management, status reporting and overall responsibility for the development of the new application.Additional duties at Northwest Airlines involved developing specifications for the creation of a new decision support database for the Marketing Department. Responsibilities included project planning, data modeling, technical design, and the development of the extract and load procedures of the massive database. Performed business process re-engineering studies for the corporate transportation group of Cargill. This effort followed a re-engineering methodology which analyzed, recorded, and documented current processes and procedures. Developed a “to-be” business model based upon industry best practices. Presented findings and recommendations to the executive team.Responsible for the procurement functionality of an ERP implementation at a packaging facility of Cargill. Responsibilities included analysis of business processes, training of personnel, implementation of the new software, and data conversion.
