In my role as Race Director I was responsible forensuring the ongoing success and continued improvement of all event operations across the sport division of Fairfax Events including;The Sun-Herald City2Surf – world’s largest run and Sydney’s favourite sporting eventThe Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon – Australia’s largest and premier distance eventThe Sunday Age City2Sea – MelbourneThe Canberra Times Fun Runbrisbanetimes.com.au City2South – BrisbaneAustralian Running Festival incorporating the Canberra Times Marathon, Half, 10km & 5kmThe Sydney Morning Herald Cole Classic – Australia’s largest ocean swimThe Sun-Herald Surf SwimRebel Sport Run4FunThe Sydney Morning Herald Sun RunThe role involved working closely with athletes and sporting clubs to develop and improve industry leading events, sourcing and networking with senior stakeholders, suppliers, volunteers and communicating effectively with all parties, course creation and site development, creation of detailed event management plans, risk assessments, development of logistics plans, negotiating, liaising, budgeting.A large part of being Race Director for the Worlds Largest Running event the City2Surf meant ensuring world leading medical standards, insurance requirements, contracts and ensuring the safety of up to 200,000+ participants and spectators.Key Responsibilities:• Event Delivery – Supervision of Event, management of government relationships, risk assessment, emergencymanagement, course development, event site development.• Stakeholder Liaison – Government, Sponsors & Suppliers• Event development & Improvement – including development of additional events and or revenue streams• Staff management – Training, development, mentoring, management• Budgeting & Cost Management – Budget setting, supplier negotiations, government negotiation, suppliernegotiation and relationship building• Event Media – Interviews and PR strategy

Delivery and Development of major events Project management of events from concept stage through to delivery. Scoping of all operational requirements for new events, and the improvement of existing events. Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Government, Local Councils and sponsors and suppliers. Sponsorship servicing. Ensuring profitability and sustainability of existing events. Preparation of event budgets and budget estimates. Preparation and development of site plans. Website development and ongoing site management. Writing copy for Web and Print advertising as well as contributing copy to runners guides for City2Surf and Half Marathon.
