I am currently working in a Government Department in a senior commercial role, overseeing the commercial elements of the the implementation of a cutting edge portfolio of work. In this role I bring in-depth operational knowledge of and project management skills to the commercial role. Prior to that I looked after a small team ranging from SMEs ranging to recent graduates in the implementation of new contracts and the management of existing ones. During my time in these role I have gained a deep insight into the subtleties of complex commercial requirements in Government and the due diligence required to place contracts, especially those in environments with specialist technical needs and limited supply chains. I’ve been heavily involved in the management of difficult suppliers throughout the procurement lifecycle, some of whom at times were failing to meet their contractual obligations, at both the tendering and operational phases. It was rewarding to successfully resolve the balance of maintaining good supplier relations with improved supplier performance.

I am the lead Directing Staff in a course designed to broaden the aspect of Maritime Reservists and some civil servants in their professional careers. I liaise with a number of bodies to ensure the course runs well and that all delivery elements are met while meeting the expectations of a diverse range of students.I led a team for the Maritime Reserves providing support to a number of reservists in a deeply technical area. Prior to that I was the lead in the RNR's CIS branch and involved in the management and development of communications and information systems with the Royal Naval Reserve. I worked closely with my colleagues in the regular service and reserve units to ensure that provision of this service to the front line operates effectively.I have previously held the post of Executive Officer (second-in-command) of a reserve unit in Scotland . I ensured the effective day-to-day organisation of the ship's company and deputising for the Commanding Officer when necessary.

I provided an independent strategic oversight to operations for the Navy’s principle IS unit and its impact on Navy Command and the wider Defence community. I held special responsibility for the oversight of strategic planning and analysis for the unit’s development and the application of those changes to the wider naval community. I assessed the viability of mobile communications in their integration into established systems. I updated the site’s BC/DR plan across a variety of agencies. I held oversight of the unit’s security especially it’s IT security and how that fits into the wider Defence Infrastructure. I also appraised how the Information Assurance Maturity Model is applied to the naval service.Latterly I worked for Navy Command HQ as their DII Business Manager. I provide analysis, appraisal and decision making on large projects involving significant expenditure.

Afghanistan

I deployed to Afghanistan where I was involved in communications infrastructure and planning. Running a small committed team of experts, I slotted into a wider Army-led group with ease.
