Dr. Ashley White is an American archaeologist, surgeon, and author. A clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida he completed doctorate level forensic anthropology training and has held memberships in top national surgery and pathology academies. Dr. White has degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and East Carolina University, as well has worked at Duke University. United States Congressional Honors and international and royal recognition for important archaeological discoveries including a knighthood for services to history. An Emeritus Fellow surgeon Dr. White has been involved with researching ancient diseases and their patterns for the last three decades. This evidence based bioarchaeology has granted him access to some of the world’s most sensitive archaeological sites in Asia including Russia, China, and India, The Middle East including Egypt, Turkey, and Israel including the West Bank and disputed conflict areas of Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, North and Sub Sahara Africa, The majority of European Union countries in addition England, Scotland, and Ireland, as well Central and South America including the Amazon Basin.Dr. White has served on the Governing Board of the Archaeological Institute of America, founded in 1879 and chartered by the United States Congress. The AIA is North America’s oldest and largest organization devoted to the world of archaeology. Dr. White serves on the Cultural Property Legislation and Policy Committee that is responsible for tracking and reporting on national and international legislation that affects archaeology; keeping up with progress on UNIDROIT, the Hague Convention, the Underwater Resources Convention, and various EEC directives; investigating and responding to issues concerning the illicit trade in antiquities; and developing timely AIA responses as necessary. Dr. White is also as a member of the Professional Responsibilities Committee that advises the Governing Board on appropriate policies and action concerning the preservation of archaeological resources, placement and employment, standards of archaeological excavations, professional ethics, and other matters involving professional responsibilities.Specialties: Dr. White is the author of the well received Physical Signs in Medicine and Surgery - An Atlas of Rare, Lost and Forgotten Physical Signs. This comprehensive Atlas was originally conceived for doctors providing needed care in dangerous, rugged and remote situations often created by catastrophe, disasters, epidemics, and military conflicts.
