FRONT Exhibition Company is a 501(c)3 non--profit which plans and presents FRONT INTERNATIONAL: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary ArtFRONT is a triennial exhibition comprised of artist commissions, performances, films, and public programs that launched its first edition in July of 2018. The inaugural edition of FRONT was curated by Artistic Director Michelle Grabner, a renowned artist, educator, and curator based in Chicago and Milwaukee.The inaugural edition, titled An American City, presented work by more than 120 artists from around the world in 28 institutions and unconventional spaces across Northeast Ohio. Many of the projects and installations were commissioned for the exhibition. Over 90,000 visitors from more than 25 countries generated $31 million in new economic activity for the region.The second edition of FRONT was scheduled to take place in the Summer of 2021. In response to the Covid-19 crisis, our board has opted to delay our second edition to the Summer of 2022 in order to present the exhibition without compromising its scope, impact and relevance to our new realities.

Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell established the Bidwell Foundation in order to support artists and arts institutions by sponsoring projects, programming and exhibitions that encourage creativity and innovation. The initial project of the Bidwell Foundation is the Transformer Station (www.TransformerStation.org), a private museum in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland which opened in February of 2013. This 7,500 sq. ft. facility is a space for contemporary art exhibits, installations and performance the offices of the Bidwell Foundation. Exhibitions at the Transformer Station programmed by the Foundation share work from the collection of Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell and new work commissioned by the Bidwells for the new museum space. The Foundation has agreed to loan the facility to the Cleveland Museum of art for six months of each year to present original contemporary arts programming by internationally recognized artists.Since opening in 2013, Transformer Station has presented exhibitions by leading contemporary artists and a lively programming schedule of lectures, tours, concerts and performances. The Museum and its grounds serve as the unofficial town square of the Hingetown neighborhood on Cleveland's West Side and is widely credited as one of the catalysts for the dramatic growth and investment in the surrounding area.The second major project of the Bidwell Foundation was the research and feasibility study that led to the establishment of FRONT Exhibition Company which organizes FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art. FRONT was spun off as a separate non-profit corporation in 2016.

The Gordon Square Arts District (GSAD) leverages vibrant arts and culture to foster economic growth and collaboration. Founded in 2007 by Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT), Near West Theatre (NWT) and the Detroit Shoreway CDO/Capitol Theatre, in 2014 GSAD completed a $30 million capital campaign that funded neighborhood beautification, added parking, created a CPT campus, reopened the long-shuttered Capitol Theatre, formed the first Special Improvement District in Cleveland beyond downtown, and built a fully accessible, passive-design theatre for NWT.Our work now shifts to building on this base to further grow the area economy and contribute to Cleveland’s renaissance. In 2014, during the final year of the campaign, GSAD began community planning to steward the investment and look to the future. A new Master Plan creates a framework for strengthening the Detroit Avenue core, connecting with the lake and nearby neighborhoods, maintaining focus on the arts and taking the neighborhood to the next level of success.
