Children and their families have been important to me since my first child care position as a nanny shortly after my first child was born. I saw the importance of nurturing and caring for young children, and saw how much their parents needed encouragement and guidance through those tough years of infancy and toddlerhood. As my career grew from caring for young children as a classroom teacher, to being the one to encourage and guide their caregivers, as well as the children's parents, I became an advocate for children and their families, and sought to improve the standards of care in the centers I directed. From being instrumental in building a Mothers' Day Out program's first toddler playground, to providing training for my staff to help identify children who might need assessment for early intervention, to collaborating with other Director's to ensure we have thought of all the potential emergencies we need to be prepared for in a childcare center, I have enjoyed all aspects of serving children, their families, and the staff members who serve with me.
