Freddie Hendricks’ work exemplifies creativity, with a voice of clear perspective, during a time in great need of a positive artistic voice. His work reigns of deeper issues of the world, embarking on a kind of social enlightenment. As the Founding Artistic Director of The Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, (F.H.Y.E.A.), Hendricks created and directed over 20 critically acclaimed productions tackling contemporary issues, such as, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, HIV-AIDS, youth violence, race, and Apartheid, all with an underlying theme of self-empowerment for every generation.Hendricks is the 2002 Abby Award recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award. Hendricks embarks on all avenues of creativity, a director, a performer, a writer, a leader, and has gained respect as a notable teacher of the arts. In 1996 and 1998, he was honored in Washington D.C. as a distinguished Teacher of America by former President Bill Clinton.As one of Atlanta’s international ambassadors, he has conducted workshops, directed, and created productions throughout the world. He has directed productions from Atlanta, Georgia to Holland and South Africa. His critically acclaimed production of “What’s Going On” a tribute to Marvin Gaye toured Europe for 6 months.Specialties: Over the years, Hendricks has helped shape some of today’s most accomplished artists. Numerous other artists credit Hendricks for molding their talent, including: D. Woods, Young Money’s star SnL (Shanell), Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson, and National Theatre star Jahi Kearse. He was the mentor and acting coach of Broadway’s “Fela!” stars, Saycon Sengbloh and Sahr Ngaujah as well as many other actors frequently seen on BET, MTV, ABC, and Nickelodeon.
