The Kimberley Klub YHA is the biggest and most popular hostel in Broome, WA. It’s consisting of 36 rooms (165 beds +), a bar, a tropical swimming pool, a volleyball court and a tour desk. In dry season, more than 20 staff was rostered to insure the best service to the guests. In 12 months in that position, we have renovated entirely the hotel, created a great and very supportive work team and offered a new level of service to our guests. My goal was to be as creative as possible to keep our guests to stay longer by organizing nightly events and create a real “Klub” feeling.

After a year as an assistant manager, I was promoted to Store Manager directly through the owners. Our goal was to work hard to ensure sales targets, operations goals and that policies were met. Together, we changed the whole routine of the shop. We trained the entire team to meet our higher expectations. In 12 months in this position, we had cut the staff cost by at least a third and balanced our budget in our favor.
