Built a procurement negotiation platform, from concept to Minimum Viable Product (MVP), using NodeJS, ReactJS, Typescript, and diverse technologies. This platform automated data extraction from PDF order forms and generated valuable negotiation insights. Additionally, I played a crucial role in customer research and acquisition, and facilitated pitch sessions with potential investors, including technology and financial services markets, as well as venture capital firms.

I was responsible for building and managing two SW engineering organizations and the TPM organization, which comprised about ~60 FTEs (6 teams, ~40+ Engineers and ~20 TPMs across the US and India) and ~40 contractors (RPA, FE/BE in China and South America). I also defined the technology vision for the Compass Services organization, the platforms it built and delivered the initial version of the Compass Service platform, which opened the door for further development and team growth. Additionally, I oversaw the technical vision and roadmap for Intelligent Automation at Compass (Process and Document Automation). As a result of these efforts, the Intelligent Automation team delivered 15,000+ hours in time saved for operational staff.

As Chief of Staff to the CTO, I was responsible for growing the engineering organization from 100 to 900+ people and opening development centers in Seattle and India. I also built and scaled a team of 15+ Engineering/Technical Program Managers focused on solving the technical problems associated with "scaling" at Compass and driving the delivery of large initiatives. My team delivered key programs that enabled Compass' scalability include the migration from a monolithic to a service-oriented architecture (multi-year migration to microservices in Go, Java, and Typescript), the implementation of operational excellence, including backend and frontend observability, monitoring and alarming, on-call, and incident response. Lastly, I introduced organization-wide technical and non-technical management mechanisms to ensure alignment across the engineering teams with the CTO's vision for engineering. For example, I introduced regular talent reviews, engineering fast track programs, architectural principles, development guardrails, and architectural discussions, deep dives, and reviews across the engineering organization. I also defined the career ladder across engineering roles and trained 400+ on conducting technical interviews. As a result of my efforts, Compass was able to scale smoothly across locations and 100+ teams.

I worked on a minimum viable product to automate and reduce the time to first contact for real estate agents and renting customers in NYC. I used Kotlin, ReactJS, AWS comprehend, and the RASA framework to build the MVP. I also conducted market and user research studies with multiple companies to understand the need for customer support automation and contact insights. As a result of my research, Analog42 pivoted from customer support automation to contact intelligence and assisted automation.

As a TPM I delivered large-scale initiatives to implement a cross-platform framework to process, aggregate, and display data at the Amazon scale (millions of transactions per day, PBs of transaction data). They also managed the feature roadmap, lifecycle, and operational excellence aspects of Amazon Retail Analytics Basic, an analytics product available to Amazon vendors (freemium) with more than a million daily active users worldwide (US, EMEA, APAC). As a result of the changes they introduced in ARA basic, the customer support contact ratio fell by 45%. They also delivered long-lived programs to reduce the operational burden associated with creating timely analytic datasets and responding to customer contacts. This initiative eliminated weekly ticket crunches and reduced the team's overall operational burden by more than 50% (engineers spend 50% less time-solving dataset creation problems or customer contacts).

As a software engineer at Amazon, I was responsible for developing various applications and services for the MyHabit flash sales business. This included creating a front-end application for managing large-scale catalog updates and writing microservices to integrate the MyHabit business model into Amazon's retail business model. MyHabit shut down its doors in 2016, but the technology and principles powering MyHabit served as a cornerstone to the Amazon flash sales.

I was responsible for delivering 20+ programs tailored to the French retail organization, ranging from introducing new Retail catalog processing logic to adding specific elements to the retail website and the retail pipeline. I also onboarded several media-rich data sources into the French retail catalog, negotiating pricing and terms with the vendor and conducting an ROI analysis over the acquired media. I also implemented the data source's integrations (mainly java and c++). The result was that more than 50K products received rich images and video, which had the potential to increase their sales. In addition, I delivered several educational sessions for the French retail employees on the inner workings of the Amazon retail systems, their complexities, and why the delivery of seemingly small features requires a lot of effort.

I was responsible for building and managing Antelink's software engineering and systems team, as well as defining the technical vision and leading the architectural design and implementation of Antelink's open-source traceability platform. This included migrating the infrastructure from ad-hoc hosting into AWS and its various services (EC2, DynamoDB) and later Azure (following a partnership with Microsoft). I also presented Antelink's product and business offering at multiple conferences worldwide, and entirely built Antelink's source management and traceability MVP.

I researched large-scale adaptive systems, model-driven engineering, and aspect-oriented programming for the European project FP7 DiVA. I also managed a complete work package, day-to-day development activities of a configurable self-adaptive framework, and the collaboration between research partners for this project. While at INRIA, I participated in the program committee and organization of several international conferences and workshops. I also presented my research work to international conferences and symposiums and published research work in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.I defended my Ph.D. thesis in September 2010 and graduated with mention Summa Cum Laude.

UTFSM's applied mathematics lab is where students learn to use tools to support the mathematics behind engineering. I built and sold an e-learning application specialized for this type of laboratory. I performed administrative duties by maintaining and deploying the lab systems (e-learning system, lab workstations, servers, directory service, and third-party software). In addition to my administrative duties, I was the leader of a team of three engineering students who performed daily maintenance and development of the laboratory infrastructure.

While in college, I developed an e-learning software system tailored for discrete analysis laboratories. I sold the system I developed to the "Universidad Adolfo Ibañez" and the "Universidad Federico Santa Maria." Bundled with the package was the job of system administrator and maintainer of the laboratory for applied mathematics to engineering.

In January 2003, while in college, I co-founded pueblitosilicio.cl, a venture that offered low-cost web and email hosting for the Chilean market. As founder and technical person, I set up and maintained pueblitosilicio.cl’s Infrastructure. Publitosilicio closed its doors in Dec 2003, and it was a great learning experiment for me and my co-founder.
