Welcome to Bourgoin Cognac. My name is Frédéric Bourgoin. I am a winegrower in Saint-Saturnin, (Charente,France). The philosophy behind my cognacs starts with the terroir, the soil and its fascinating qualities. I produce a one-of-a-kind Cognac style,may it be in the approach,the quality of the liquids, the body and taste, alongside my parents and my sister Maëlys. You may have tasted cognacs before. This being said, reading the following lines might open up your vision on how different from an other some eaux-de-vies can be ; here is why, and the Bourgoin Cognac story.My family nowdays still follows the tradition and our wines are made of three types of vintages : Premiers bois, Petite Champagne and Fins bois. Our ambition is to deliver a different vision of what cognac can be ,getting beyond its dusty old drink reputation. We use the term « Premiers bois », a small forgotten vintage from the very first Cognac AOC map in 1909 (Appelation d’Origine Controlée / Registered Origin Designation), which benefits from the best geological Cretaceous subsoils. I persist in producing « Natural Cognac » which represents best the « birth » terroir, or « cru ». What does « Natural Cognac » stands for ? An unblended and unfiltered cognac, without any additives, colorants nor added sugars. My cognacs are bottled by hand, by vintage,by plot and single casks. The old vintages are cask proof, and unreduced. I belong to the « biodynamic way of mind ». Therefore, young eaux de vies reductions are made with distilled rainwater from our Estate to enhance our flavor profile. The eaux-de-vies are extracted during the moon quarter , to avoid filtration, and with only a touch of fluid mechanism. We solely use gravity for our hand-made bottling, which always takes place in the distillerie, in great company. Bourgoin Cognac was made with passionate sommeliers , devoted restaurants and bartenders in mind, excited with enhancing their customers’ experience.
