San Bernardino

MWD Inland Feeder Project-Arrowhead Tunnels.Designed two 7.5 mVA 34.5 kV primary substations and installed for project power. Assembled and maintained two Herrenknecht TBM'S along with two onsite concrete batch plants for over 6 years. After 2003 Christmas day site flooding, rebuilt TBM onsite with no factory support and within budget and schedule---no additional superintendents were hired. No serious electrical accidents.The lowest labor force on recent tunnel projects in So Cal.Managed project without additional superintendents or additional foreman.

Greater Los Angeles Area

Modifications and upgrades to two TBM'S, one for Fall River, MA and one for Milwaukee WI. Built custom cabinets and cooling systems, all power and control wiring and tested in shop with full UL 508 approval.

Las Vegas, Nevada Area

This projected involved the construction of a new bar screens waste water initial screening unit for Clark County Sanitation Facility. Included were a new radial feeder system at 13.8 kV installed in existing manholes that were energized. No serious accidents.

Winslow Arkansas

Project consisted of excavation by traditional drill & shoot method for twin roadway tunnels for the new Bobby Hopper Tunnel. Systems included: 1,542 tunnel roadway light fixtures, 29 MAC boxes, 2 VMS signs, 2 CO monitoring systems, 2 linear heat detection system, MOV automatically controlled deluge system, 18 video cameras, traffic control systems-interior and entrance/ egress, 150' transmission tower with radial cable routed to new Rohn shelter, UPS system, operators control room with full control console and SCADA system run via Unix in house developed software code, 26 miles of underground fiber optic cable to duplicate control room in Ft Smith Arkansas installed concurrent with tunnel room. No serious accidents.

Los Angeles

Designed and installed one 10 mVA 34.5 kV substation and developed site for 4 TBM'S for the Hollywood Red Line Subway Tunnel Project. Oversaw initial build out of 4 TBM'S in Lindon Utah, then assembled and maintained for tunnel excavation. Unique scope in that all 4 TBM'S launched from same shaft. No serious accidents.

Supervised electrical systems of a TBM digger shield. Rebuilt TBM after initial drive, modifying systems to decrease downtime.Modified original Class 1 Division 2 design to reduce dependence on NEMA 7 enclosers. Redesigned segment arm controller to include two hand control. A year or two later a fatality occurred in Portland using the original design by a different General Contractor. This project was my introduction to tunneling.
