As a planning engineer for the newly created Transportation and Planning Department, I am responsible for reviewing plats for compliance with Harris County’s rules, regulations, and requirements. I take the lead in preparing road corridor applications for the major thoroughfare plan amendment cycle each year as well as attend related meetings to the major thoroughfare plan. I also consult with developers, engineers, real estate personnel or other land development related individuals regarding planning matters

As the manager, I was responsible for enforcing the regulations of Harris County for infrastructure by overseeing the plat pre-recordation and recordation processes and sending plats to Harris county Commissioners’ Court. I supervised a team of five planners ensuring the expedient and meticulous review and approval of plats in unincorporated and incorporated Harris County. I was responsible for initiating modifications to the city of Houston major thoroughfare plan during the city’s amendment process each year. I was responsible for reviewing and recording platted county developments where Harris County is the applicant. I was responsible for street name changes requested by developers of single family residential developments by initiating court orders in unincorporated Harris County. I provided expedient and professional service to private consultants and general public while enforcing all applicable County regulations

As a Transportation Engineer working for Harris County, I have spent the past seven months in the Permits Commercial Review department. My main function was to review commercial sites and subdivisions and ensuring that the design complied with County permits guidelines. For sites in floodplains, I ensured that the structures were built according to our guidelines to be at or above the floodplain. I have reviewed over seventy commercial sites and/or subdivisions while approving approximately twenty-five sites. I had also processed permit notifications from utility companies who request placing utilities in the road right-of-way. While reviewing different types of plan sites, I have become familiar with the design concepts needed for top quality commercial and residential design. With my meticulous and thorough plan reviews, I have generated and saved the county thousands of dollars.

I spent twelve years working as a Capital Projects Engineer for Harris County while bidding over thirty projects designed by various Houston area consultants. I was responsible for managing and executing the study and design of various roads, bridges, traffic signals, and associated infrastructure improvements in accordance with County design standards. While in this section, I managed multiple roadway projects with various consultants with an emphasis on major thoroughfares to ensure that the roads were designed to Harris County standards. During my tenure at Capital Projects, I learned the profession to the extent that I managed between twelve to fifteen projects with minimal supervision. Under my project management, I saved the county money by redesigning the projects more efficiently. In this position, I coordinated with other governmental agencies (e.g. COH, TxDOT, METRO) to finalize the design of major thoroughfares.

While working in the main office, my principal assignment was to design the IH-45 frontage roads and drainage system from FM 1488 to Tamina Road. I also designed the IH-45 retaining walls for the I-45 bridge crossing over Spring-Steubner Road. In this position, I supervised two entry level engineers. For three months, I had worked in an assignment with the City of Houston for their bikeway program in their Street/Bridge Division. I had managed and executed the design of approximately twenty bikeway projects as well as negotiated contracts for various consultants.
