I evaluate customer experiences and design mechanisms to measure and quantify satisfaction and user delight. This is a multi-disciplinary approach: I work with program managers to design application telemetry, developers to add instrumentation to product code and quality engineers to determine whether a product is ready to release. I leverage big data and business intelligence tools to collect and analyze application telemetry from across the globe. I use visualization techniques to present findings in an intuitive manner to key stakeholders in my company.

I was responsible for developing quality analysis strategies and tools for evaluating face detection and recognition algorithms. At the same time, I also managed a small team of vendors doing robotics testing, and was the liaison to a consulting company building applications for our robotics product. This required both senior software development and testing skills, as well as a strong ability to collaborate and manage internal and external resources.

At Live Labs, I designed, implemented and deployed unit and regression testing for the graphics engine at the core of today's Bing Maps. I also designed and implemented the test infrastructure needed to test DeepZoom across several versions of DirectX, removing the pain of writing platform-specific test code. I created and maintained automated SQL Server Reporting Services test automation reports for triaging test pass results. I also created a post-build tool for auto-generating .NET interop headers for our C APIs, allowing SDETs to write C# regression tests.

At ACES, I owned the QA effort for the ground vehicle simulation component in the Enterprise Simulation Platform, aimed at bringing the richness of the FlightSim world to enterprise customers. I pioneered test techniques for validating ground/vehicle dynamics in the simulator by combining 3D content tools, GIS solutions and custom test infrastructure. This allowed the feature team to address not only bugs in the new feature, but flaws in the existing simulator components which impacted our simulation scenarios. This scenario-focused approach allowed us to demo our ground vehicle system at a major defense industry conference (ITSEC) within a year of project startup - a major PR boon for the studio.

I helped ship several products in the Windows P2P team, including network components for Vista, Windows Meeting Space (P2P-based collaboration application), P2P components for WCF and IPv6 support for client and server. During this time, I became a specialist in code coverage analysis by automating all aspects of instrumentation, collection and analysis. This allowed the team to move away from manual analysis and focus on fixing bugs, typically shaving weeks off a test pass. During this time, I worked with the code coverage platform team to create customized algorithms. Another area I specialized in was model-based verification and testing of distributed algorithms using Petri nets. Using a Visual Studio plug-in I created, feature teams could model a new feature and do design verification before implementation started. The same models were then turned into automated conformance tests for the implementation.During Vista, I stepped in as a technical QA lead for the Windows Meeting Space application. I applied scrum methodology to organize and drive the test team. In addition to designing, planning and hiring responsibilities, mentoring new SDETs was also an important part of ensuring the success of this test team. As the visibility of the project grew, our team was partnered with Office and I managed to cross-organizational testing of the feature. This new, disruptive application was finally shipped as a back of the box feature for Vista.
