He is responsible for programming and running the computer simulations which led to the construction of the company's first and primary molecular design, Perkinamine, which he named after the famous dye chemist, William Henry Perkin, inventor of the color mauve, and founder of the subsequent German synthetic dye and chemical industries.Fred Goetz also led the lab work, "dirtying his hands" in the laboratory, during the corporation's formative years, when it first synthesized the chromophore Perkinamine. He ran the reactions required in the synthesis of Perkinamine, as well as analysis of these reactions via high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).He spent his initial years as CEO, getting the company off the ground, until he was able bring in more talented management and become the CSO (Chief Science Officer) and focus on his primary talents working in the laboratory.
