I work within the QMS & Compliance team where my time is primarily focused on Supplier related quality assurance activities. Much of my time is also spent supporting customer audits and regulatory inspections. Other duties include conducting Internal and Supplier audits and being an administer for the site wide ComplianceWire GMP training system, TrackWise Quality Management software and Qumas Document Management system.

My main role was to jointly head up the Quality Assurance department to ensure that the company complied with ISO 13485 and current regulatory requirements. This included conducting internal and supplier audits and the management of non-conformance. Being the designated lab supervisor for QC specific lab and PCR instrumentation, my secondary function was to assist in the completion of QC release and raw material testing by qPCR and RTqPCR.

At PsiOxus Therapeutics (now Akamis Bio) I worked in the Clinical Assays team, within the Translational Medicine Department. I was responsible for the establishment and validation of ELISA experiments and assisted in the development of qPCR based experiments in accordance to GLP/GCP, in preparation for use on patient samples from Phase I clinical trials. Other roles include being a First Aider and Fire Marshall.

I worked within the Research Department on in vitro pre-clinical studies to support regulatory submissions. Much of this work was tissue culture based, planning and conducting experiments with upcoming ‘armed’ oncolytic virus' using a range of cancer cell lines to assess viral activity and toxicity by means of RTqPCR Flow Cytometry, ELISA and cell-based assays. I worked within the Early Development department - Immunochemistry (ISO/IEC 17025:2005). I performed, QC checked and validated ELISA based assays in accordance to GLP/GCP for different client projects in support of their clinical drug trials. I was regularly involved in audits carried out by clients and regulatory authorities such as the FDA and MHRA.

My project was to investigate a possible relationship between the protein Ciz1 and the process of X chromosome inactivation. The analytical techniques used during the placement included Western blot, immunofluorescence microscopy, gene cloning and RNA-Fluorescence in situ Hybridisation (FISH) and mammalian cell/tissue culture.

I worked for two months on a voluntary basis within the Advanced Wound Management microbiology team at the Smith & Nephew Research Centre in York (ISO 9001:2008). I helped with research into the effectiveness of different wound dressings and to determine the level of biofilm formation of different S. aureus strains.

My main responsibility was to assist in the running of the business to deliver sales on target with the General Manager and ensure all staff were trained on the appropriate H&S regulations. I implemented and maintained food and beverage service standards consistently, while improving the products and service available.
