Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Frederick McCarthy cemented his understanding of citizenship and responsibility as an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduating from Boston Latin School, Fred McCarthy commenced his undergraduate education at Harvard College where he majored in Physics and participated in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program for four years. After he received his Bachelor of Arts, Frederick McCarthy joined the United States Army and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Training at the United States Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fred McCarthy completed courses in light and heavy weapons training, leadership training, and battlefield survival. He excelled in each of these courses and more, ranking the highest in his class of 200 and earning the title of The Honor Graduate in his officer training class. Subsequently attending the United States Army Intelligence School at Fort Holabird, Maryland, McCarthy once again earned the title of The Honor Graduate, this time in a class of 50. He was then posted as a Special Agent to the Army’s 115th Intelligence Corps Group field office in Los Angeles, California, and subsequently promoted to First Lieutenant before leaving the Army to return to graduate school at Harvard. Returning to his alma mater, Frederick McCarthy entered Harvard Business School to pursue a Master of Business Administration. He obtained designation as a George F. Baker Scholar during his time as a student and graduated with High Honors. After completing business school, McCarthy launched his professional career and initiated an extensive involvement in charitable enterprises. In 1988, Frederick McCarthy applied his professional success to the field of philanthropy and founded the McCarthy Family Foundation, a non-profit charitable trust that supports nationwide or worldwide charitable organizations through donations and advocacy.
