The KCAW Development Director is responsible for working with the General Manager to create and implement a plan and strategies to provide financial support for the activities of the station. The Development Director works with KCAW Staff and volunteers to meet fundraising goals.The Development Director organizes KCAW’s On-Air Membership Drives, coordinates KCAW’s membership program, solicits business support, develops underwriting support, develops and executes fundraising events, partners on major gift cultivation, oversees KCAW’s retail store, assists in grant writing efforts, develops an annual fundraising plan, and reports to the KCAW General Manager.

Kavilco Incorporated is a southeast Alaska Native village corporation created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1973 with 120 original shareholders.The Kavilco name was created with much thought. KA came from the Kasaan; VIL represents the Native Village of Kasaan; and CO represents the Company. Kasaan (Gasa'aan) is the only known permanent Haida village on the east coast of Prince of Wales Island, located on the north shore of Skowl Arm. Kasaan is a Tlingit word meaning “pretty town” or “pretty place,” but can also be translated as “on top village.”Kavilco’s plaque and logo reads “Hale Alaska Indian Descendants All” which stands for HAIDA. Carved on the plaque are mountains, a long house, a totem, and water. The mountains represent future revenues as well as hunting areas. The long house and totem represents the past. The blue water is the fishing area around the Village of Kasaan from which our ancestors made their living.In 1989, Kavilco Incorporated began operating as a Registered Investment Company, as defined by the Investment Company Act of 1940.

The Southeast Alaska Indigenous Transboundary Commission (SEITC) consists of fifteen federally recognized Tribes of Southeast Alaska whose mission is to protect Tribal lands and waterways for future generations. SEITC seeks to create a unified voice for all Indigenous peoples facing disproportionate negative impacts from large-scale industrial development rapidly occurring across the international border in British Columbia, Canada.SEITC member Tribes include Chilkat Indian Village (Klukwan), Craig Tribal Association, Douglas Indian Association, Hydaburg Cooperative Association, Organized Village of Kake, Organized Village of Kasaan, Ketchikan Indian Community, Klawock Cooperative Association, Metlakatla Indian Community, Petersburg Indian Association, Organized Village of Saxman, Sitka Tribe of Alaska, Wrangell Cooperative Association, Yakutat Tlingit Tribe, and the Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. SEITC also has a current Memorandum of Agreement with both the United Tribes of Bristol Bay and the Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council.

The Organized Village of Kasaan is a federally recognized Tribe committed to promoting, preserving, and protecting indigenous Haida identity and values. For our elders and youth, we look to the future in unity, by developing economic opportunities, promoting education, and utilizing our cultural, natural, and social resources.

Kasaan is the northernmost of the Haida villages. At the end of the 1800s, residents moved from the former village, Gasa’aan (“pretty town”), on Skowl Arm, now called Old Kasaan.Kasaan is located on Prince of Wales Island. The town is easily accessible by road once on Prince of Wales Island.“New” Kasaan is located on Prince of Wales Island and is easily accessible by road and floatplane. www.kasaan.org

The Organized Village of Kasaan (OVK) is a federally recognized Tribal government that was established on October 15, 1938. As well as being a federally recognized Tribe, we benefit from 501(c)3 recognition. The organization consists of a seven member Tribal council which serves at the pleasure of 100+ tribal memberships. In the Charter of The Organized Village of Kasaan, it states, “Whereas, a group of Indians having a common bond of residence in the neighborhood of Kasaan, Territory of Alaska, seek to organize under sections 16 and 17 of the Indian Reorganization Act of June 18, 1934 (48 Stat. 984), and section 1 of the Act of May 1, 1936 (49 Stat. 1250), by ratification of a constitution and by-laws and a charter approved by the Secretary of the Interior on October 15, 1938.
