The National Board of Social Services is a government agency under The Ministry of Social Affairs and the Interior charged with ensuring that social and welfare initiatives are implemented in Denmark's municipalities. As a student assistant in the Board's Centre of Economics and Grant Management, I was supporting the clerks' work on allocating government funds to applicants' social projects related to socially challenged and marginalized individuals/groups. My work entailed screening applications as well as case management incl. working with budgets This required not only an understanding of public administrative procedures and practices, but also a knowledge of the composition of budgets.

My job as a teaching assistant was to facilitate the students' practical introduction to central quantitative and qualitative methods that are essential in the field of political science. This includes an introduction to Stata and NVivo, respectively a statistics and qualitative analysis software that are generally used in political science studies. As a teaching assistant I was not only required to understand the central theoretical foundations of statistics, qualitative analysis and general social science methodology, but also to communicate this knowledge in a simple and understandable fashion so that the students learn how statistical/quantitative and qualitative methods can be used to research social phenomenon. The job entailed helping students with solving exercises related to different social phenomenon by using quantitative methods in Stata and qualitative methods in NVivo as well as marking and giving feedback on two mandatory assignments during the course.

My job as a teaching assistant was to facilitate political science students' introduction to micro- and macroeconomic theory as well as the interwoven nature of politics and economics. This required an understanding of central economic concepts and theories and how these can be applied to solve economic problems at micro and macro level. Thus I was required to combine an economics mindset based on mathematical skills with a more generalist perspective of a political scientist. The job entailed helping students with solving exercises related to economic concepts and theories, and with understanding what the consequences of certain decisions at micro- and macro level will be not only for the specific economic agent, but also for society as a whole.

I was charged with providing the students with four rounds of methodological feedback on a self-selected topic for a larger methodological assigment. As a teaching assistant, it was essential that I had a broad, in-depth overview of core strengths and weaknesses of different social science methodologies, incl. knowledge of potential sources of bias.
