I have been described by others as an “art of the possible" kind of person.I just completed a successful career at the largest US beverage alcohol distributor, a $25B business. I started at the bottom in Fort Lauderdale in a route sales territory. After being promoted through the ranks, I was privileged to complete the last 10 years as Vice President General Sales Manager, managing the Southern California CPWS Division. I never applied for a promotion; management always came to me to talk about my next role. I led a sales organization with 180 people and increased operational income 500% over my 10 year tenure in this role. What did I do to achieve this kind of growth? It’s about increasing sales and lowering costs. First thing I did was to restructure the management hierarchy and reduce the size of the sales teams for more team manager attention, support and accountability. At the same time, eliminated positions that were not critical to the priority business objectives. I kept focused on grass root activities, increasing products distribution, constantly improving products positioning through better merchandising and more. All along, building a solid culture creating superior team morale. When I arrived in this role, this sales force division felt like they were the second class citizens compared to the other selling divisions. Within a few short years, this organization felt that this was the leading sales division. We innovated the fastest, adapted to better processes faster and became the fastest growing sales division within the company. Team members held their heads up high and knew they were contributing to something special. Net, net, I tried to create the best work environment possible! Over the past year, I have started a portfolio career. Currently, I am an independent advisor for two companies. In time, I will look into working with more companies within the beverage industry. Please feel free to DM me if you have a company or associated with a company that I can add value.
