ZT Plus is a subsidiary of Amerigon, Inc.(NASDAQ: ARGN) whose charter is to manufacture advanced thermoelectric (TE) materials. As the member of the core team at ZT Plus, I am required to synthesize, process, and evaluate thermoelectric materials in a logical, efficient, and cost effective manner.

Thermoelectric Materials Characterization. The primary focus of this job is to characterize thermoelectric materials for their Seebeck, Resistivity, and Thermal Conductivity over a high temperature range (Room Temp to 1000°C). A team is managed to fabricate test equipment, as well as to test novel materials for enhanced ZT.

Test novel configurations of thermoelectric materials to optimize device performances. The primary method for achieving higher coefficients of performance involved thermal isolation to maximize the thermoelectric efficiency (ZT).

In partial fulfillment of the NSF-IGERT fellowship, performed X-ray Reflectivity and Diffraction on various contact, adhesion, and dielectric layers for the development of memory storage. Also, techniques and methods for determining polymer crystallinity via X-ray diffraction were developed.

This research used a modulated elemental reactant (MER) synthesis technique to control both stoichiometry and absolute layer thickness in superlattice precursors which gave unit cell control over resultant [(Bi2Te3)x(TiTe2)y] superlattice compounds. In the MER technique, films are deposited in repeating layers (<30Å) to form a reactant multilayer that is close in energy to the final desired superlattice structure. A bulk quantity of the [(Bi2Te3)5(TiTe2)4] superlattice was also prepared, and its electrical and thermal properties were measured and used to evaluate its thermoelectric performance. Show less
