Successfully manage a portfolio of single family homes in our local community. All homes were distressed, up for auction, and in need of significant repair. Complete most of the renovations ourselves while contracting out some work. We have bought, sold, and rented over $1.4 million worth of properties in south Warren. Our goal has been not only to turn a profit but improve the community by transforming rundown properties into ones that lift up the value of the entire neighborhood. We are most proud of the work we are doing to reclaim a former drug house that was a burden to the good and hard working families that lived nearby. In addition, we have specifically rented to several tenants trying to rebuild following years of substance abuse, assisting them in their recovery efforts.
  • Macomb Community College
    Project Manager
    Macomb Community College 2017 - 2019
    Warren, Michigan, Us
Project manager in the Office of the President. This was a grant funded and term limited position. The scope of my work included managing large grants, research, budget projections, expense tracking, report writing, and developing recommendations for the President and his staff as requested. My favorite project was conducting free grant supported summer programs for high school students in economically challenged south Macomb County communities to learn STEM through hands-on activities like robot building and video game coding. The largest project I managed was a $1.1 million grant to provide free technologically advanced trade training for hundreds of students in financial need. Over 90% of those students were hired by companies prior to graduating their training programs at the college. The hardest project I successfully completed was the implementation and administration of a new enrollment and progress tracking system for non-credit training program students to improve their educational experience and outcomes. Macomb Community College students earn more associate degrees than at any other community college in Michigan, ranking in the top 2% nationally.
  • Belle Isle Aquarium
    General Manager
    Belle Isle Aquarium 2016 - 2017
Proudly led a dedicated team of staff and volunteers in running America's oldest operating aquarium. Built in 1904, this Albert Kahn designed building is truly one of Detroit's historic gems. It is free to the public and located within Belle Isle State Park, Michigan's most visited state park, on the Detroit River. It is part of an accessible cultural campus that includes the Scott Fountain, Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, Dossin Great Lakes Museum and Belle Isle Nature Center. The aquarium provides education, entertainment and inspiration on sea life and their ecosystems to over 162,000 people annually, making it the fourth busiest attraction in Southeast Michigan in 2016. I led efforts to continue the ongoing renovation of the historic building, refurbish many of the remaining tanks, increased open operating days, expanded educational programming for both groups and walk-in visitors, and coordinated care for the collection of 2,500 animals encompassing 160 different species.I collaboratively worked with the DNR, State Historic Preservation Office and City of Detroit to restore the historic building and modernize infrastructure to improve live animal care and the visitor experience. Prepared reports and presentations for the president, board of directors, DNR, and Detroit City Council. Managed all aquarium staff, 60 volunteers, contractors, $500,000 budget, and worked with major donors. In addition, we had a contract with the state to maintain their large fish tank at the DNR Adventure Center on the Detroit Riverwalk. In partnership with Wayne State University, we received a 3 year National Science Foundation grant for $1.2 million to provide student field trips to the aquarium and conduct research on their effectiveness. It fully funded hands-on interactive field trips for all Hamtramck and surrounding Detroit Public Schools 3rd and 4th graders. During my tenure we increased attendance by 14%, donations by 22%, and the average per person donation by 7%.
