Fred Hume is an electronics industry executive who served as CEO of Data I/O Corporation in Redmond, WA until he retired in 2012. From 1988 to 1998 he was senior vice president and general manager of Keithley Instruments in Cleveland, OH. For sixteen years he was employed by the Fluke Corporation in Everett where he served as vice president of technology and planning. He began his career in 1961 with North American Aviation and worked as a research engineer in its Autonetics division.Mr. Hume has served on the board of several private and public companies including J.W. Harley, IFR Inc., and ILX Lightwave. He was president of the Precision Measurements Association in 1978 through 1979, and he was chairman of the Washington council of the American Electronics Association from 1983 to 1985. In 1983, he was appointed to a four-year term on the Washington High Technology Coordinating Board by Governor John Spellman and served as its first chairman. He was also a director of the Washington Higher Education Finance Association from 1986 through 1988. From 1987 to 1995 he served on the National Resource Council’s Board on Assessment of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.Mr. Hume has been a frequent conference speaker and his articles on education, technology, and business strategy have appeared in a wide range of publications including Science, the IEEE Transactions, R&D Magazine, IEEE Spectrum, Test and Measurement World, and Across The Board. He attended Biola College, California State University at Long Beach, and in 1985 completed the strategic marketing program at Harvard Business School. He holds two patents. Fred is active in NAMI and facilitates its Family-to-Family course. He is also on the board of the National Education Alliance on Borderline Personality Disorder. He started working with the mentally ill and homeless on the streets of Skid Row in Los Angeles at the age of nineteen.
