As a structural engineer, my goal is to craft economical and easy to construct structural designs that meet aesthetic and functional needs while providing a safe environment. To achieve these goals, I collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, artists, owners, constructors, engineers, and other project stakeholders. I have a long-standing respect for the power of urban planning and architecture and work diligently with project team members to collaboratively reach solutions that bring value to our projects. I’m involved in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry both at professional and personal levels. I enjoy attending and participating in industry events, as well as pursuing ongoing professional education opportunities. There’s a special place in my heart for mentoring the future engineering workforce, which I nurture both through the ACE Mentor Program of America and by volunteering at local schools and universities. I always enjoy a lively discussion on the building and construction arts. Many of my personal friends are architects, carpenters, construction managers, and other industry professionals. My fascination with the built world started before my first memories. My parents were employed as a municipal finance director and a foundation testing engineer (utilizing the then groundbreaking CASE method for estimating driven pile capacities). My favorite architect is one of my late great-uncles, Manfred May from North Bay, Canada. Summer visits to Canada and time spent with Manfred gave me an appreciation for the art and power of meaningful architecture, as well as the interaction between built and natural environments. I carry the ethical foundation my mother taught me throughout every aspect of my life: treat all with respect and kindness, help those in need whenever you can, and life will be better because of it. I truly believe that we all have the power to change the world in amazing ways, every day!
