I’m a fiscally responsible leader with a knack for numbers, and getting teams engaged and excited about the work we do. It has paid off in generating more funding and program participation in my current and previous roles in non-profit management. For the past two years, I grew participation and funding for a government sponsored housing program that helps people with limited finances achieve the American Dream of home ownership, or obtain necessary renovations for homes in dire need of repair. In this position, I oversaw a team of dedicated individuals who facilitate financial counseling, entrepreneurial learning initiatives, grant writing, business services and workforce development programs. In less than 3 years, we’ve been able to expand the program four-fold, hosting more workshops, helping more participants, and generating more funding for homes and renovations throughout much of Virginia.Prior to that, I spent 15 years as a Director for the USO, the organization known for bringing entertainment and morale-lifting programs to members of our nation’s military and their families. At the USO, my roles varied, from securing corporate grants and funding, to helping soldiers transition from military to civilian life. This included career and job search coaching. I was also charged with coordinating and sourcing funding for Warrior Week, a series of adaptive sporting events that took place at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. It was the satisfaction of helping wounded veterans find a new passion through sports, such as kayaking, cycling, diving, and wake-boarding that really moved me. Their families were excited to see their loved ones enjoy life again. The results were immeasurable. Moreover, I am a numbers guy, who can decipher spread sheets, track spending, and quickly find discrepancies. However, I’m not a desk guy. While I run a tight ship, I like working directly with people, developing talent, and establishing policies for a leaner operation that doesn’t sacrifice safety or quality. My experience in IT management and financial administration bring a unique skillset to the organization, my team, and our clients.Because of this experience, I find working for non-profit organizations to be fulfilling and life-changing.
