Animal Ethics Think Tank

Working collaboratively with the President and CEO, the Board of Directors, other divisions across the Woodland Park Zoo, and with other conservation leaders, the Vice President of Field Conservation develops and implements the strategies that will grow the impact of the zoo's field-based wildlife conservation programs.

Teatown Lake Reservation (www.teatown.org) is a not-for-profit, 501(c) 3, environmental center established in 1963 with a mission to conserve open space and to educate and involve the regional community in order to sustain the diversity of wildlife, plants and habitats for future generations. Headquartered at a 1,000-acre nature sanctuary located in the Towns of Yorktown, Cortlandt and New Castle, New York. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Board Chairman, the Executive Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer and a leader of the organization. As CEO, oversee management of all staff/volunteers, including administration/operations, program, finances, and fundraising/development. Serves as the public face of the organization with civic leaders, donors, media, conservation professionals, state agencies, and the public at large.

Wildlife Trust (now named EcoHealth Alliance) was an international nonprofit environmental organization whose mission is to empower local conservation scientists worldwide to protect nature and safeguard ecosystem and human health. As of 2004, Wildlife Trust supported 65 conservation projects in 20 countries with an annual operating budget of $4.6 million. Founded in 1971, Wildlife Trust worked only in developing, tropical countries until 2001, when they expanded to include wildlife ecology and ecohealth projects in New York and Florida. Responsibilities: Reporting to the President/CEO, assisted with organization management and strategic planning, especially for the conservation program; managed and developed international and/or national project portfolio, including: project leader selection; professional development of WT team (about 40 persons); supervision and leadership of core program staff (five persons) and other employees (about 20 persons); organization and control of annual program budget of about $2.5 million. Also, assisted CEO, Director of Development, and Foundations Manager to plan and to implement fundraising strategy; assisted CEO and Finance Director with development and management of annual budget; represented Wildlife Trust to media, at public relations events, and scientific meetings; and visited field sites to evaluate success and mentor junior field biologists; provided recommendations and background material for Board Conservation, Development, and Executive committees; conducted scientific research in the New York metropolitan region; participated in academic activities at Columbia University; and acted as President/CEO in her absence.

Served in the Bronx Zoo's Mammal Department on the curatorial staff from 1984 to 1994; and then as Director, Science Resouce Center until December 1998.
