I thought i knew…Ever since childhood, I have known that I want to work with new technology and computers. Progression, innovation, and risk-taking are key guiding principles for me. I may not have known exactly what I wanted to do, but the pull was strong and undeniable. So, when it came time to choose a high school, I naturally opted for a completely new and untested program, IT & Design. From there, I went on to study game development at university, worked in Quality Assurance, and took a job as a salesperson in a game store.Later, when I had the chance to move back to Gothenburg through a job offer as an editor for a music magazine, I took it. The fact that the salary was three times my previous student loan didn’t hurt either. I thought I would do this for a year until I found something new in the gaming industry. Oh how naive I was.After six months, I was promoted to editor-in-chief, and not long after that, I also took over as editor-in-chief for their other magazine, Monitor. One year quickly became ten, one issue turned into over 200, and I understood why I loved my job.The role of an editor-in-chief is in many ways similar to that of a project manager. Each new issue has a deadline, a budget, and must follow the agreed-upon theme and budget set for the year. As an editor-in-chief, you do a lot of work with texts and collaborate closely with art directors, salespeople, and the responsible publisher. But most importantly, you work with people: the ones writing the articles you commission, the customers buying ad spaces, and the readers consuming the content. And that’s what I love — using my position as a leader to uplift others, build bridges, and create new collaborations. That is why I want to work as a project manager. Don't get me wrong, I still love tech, but perhaps for different reasons than I initially thought when I chose my high school program 24 years ago. Today I realize it's the people in tech, my community, that drive me, and it was through that realization I chose to finally resign as editor-in-chief to seek new adventures in the IT industry. And the start of that journey was a vocational training program through IT-Högskolan where I studied to become a project manager, obtained a Scrum Master certification, and completed a successful internship at Swedish Match. But the story doesn’t end there. I don't know what the future holds. I just know that I'm excited to start this new chapter. And who knows, maybe I'll write it with you?
