Freija Hauquier obtained a PhD in Marine Sciences in 2016 at Ghent University, and remained working as a postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University until 2019. During her academic career, she gained scientific experience in ecosystem ecology, biodiversity and population dynamics.As of September 2019, she is working as a consultant marine ecology for ARCADIS Belgium N.V. which allows her to use her scientific background in a more applied framework. She was involved in multiple environmental impact assessments (e.g., subsea data cable, marine aggregate extraction), including appropriate assessments, in the Belgian part of the North Sea. She also cooperated in several studies related to the marine environment and relevant policy frameworks, such as Natura 2000 and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, focused on coastal protection and the improvement of the quality of the marine environment and its components.
