From the negative temperatures and 40mph wind, to hauling 60 foot pieces of number 9 rebar around, highway bridge construction made me strong. I learned to tie rebar, form and finish concrete, and work with peers to get it all done on time.

As a young man, I was introduced to a field (pun intended) that not many city dwelers get to experience. I learned what hard work was by moving irrigation pipes across a field all day, I learned confidence by taking on mean bulls, I learned to respect life when I helped deliver a calf into the world, most importantly I learned what it means to be depended on, because cows still need milked and fed when there's 5 foot deep snow between them and you.
