Here are some examples of recent work:2.4GHz radio module development for client who had existing prototypes with poorly designed radio sections: - Reviewed and tested existing prototypes, proposed a new 2.4GHz radio module design to be used in all their future products - Full turnkey development - designed radio module, built prototypes, developed firmware and delivered working prototypes that are now being tested in the client’s new product.Local oscillator design for an aerospace client who required a 2GHz PLL local oscillator with very low phase noise for a satellite radio transceiver. - Analyzed requirements, researched components, simulated potential designs, built prototype system, measured performance in lab. - Delivered PLL design to client for use in their radio transceiver product.Multiple EMC rescue projects for clients who have failed EMC testing at the certification lab and need help analyzing the failure and finding solutions to enable a certification pass.

Intrinsyc was acquired by Lantronix in Jan. 2020Following the acquisition I continued as Product Manager for the Open-Q product line and was instrumental in the integration of the product line with Lantronix. Then I focused on the more technical aspects of driving new product development, working closely with engineering on defining product architecture, HW and SW requirements.- Managed product line lifecycle, roadmap- Defined new product plans and requirements- Developed product high-level design and detailed requirements- Led product development teams as product owner- Consulted on RF related issues for external customers and internal projects - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, antennas and RF integration- Did hands-on RF analysis and measurement work when needed.

During my first two years in this role I led the expansion of Intrinsyc's Qualcomm based Open-Q line of computing modules (SOMs) and development kits from four products to more than ten. Throughout the rapid product line expansion I also drove many customer journey and product quality improvements.- Managed roadmap, product lifecycle, and pricing for Open-Q product line- Developed value propositions, product positioning, and messaging- Defined and managed ongoing SW release roadmap and requirements- Defined new product concepts, HW and SW requirements- Worked with marketing and sales to develop marketing materials and plan new product launches- Led engineering teams to design/build new products- Advised on RF design, antenna, radio integration, and regulatory issues for our modules and for external customer projects- Mentored other engineers in RF design, measurement techniques, and radio regulatory issues.

I worked as lead designer on a number of electronics and software development projects, both for external customers and for Intrinsyc product development programs. I was also the RF and regulatory lead for numerous product developments involving Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, antennas, and wireless certification. At the same time I led an expansion of RF design, testing, and certification capabilities of the company, setting up an RF lab and training other engineers in RF design and testing techniques.I also stepped in as part-time project manager for a few client projects when the company was lacking PM resources. This involved working directly with clients on engineering services projects to define their requirements, delegating tasks to HW and SW engineers, reporting on project status, tracking budgets, and managing invoicing and payments.- Delivered multiple successful customer product designs as lead designer- Worked directly with customers to understand their needs and turn these into detailed requirements- Designed suitable product architectures to meet customer requirements- Designed electronic circuits in Altium Designer- Worked with SW engineering group to bring up and validate prototypes.

After a break to finish my Bachelor of Technology degree I came back to PDE and continued to grow the RF group, providing innovative custom wireless design services for a wide variety of clients. This involved dealing directly with clients to understand their needs, creating innovative custom solutions for them, as well as leading multidisciplinary design teams designing and building complex wireless projects.- I led continued practical research into methods of radio ranging and localization, which led to further patents and systems for a key client- I managed increasingly complex projects with multidisciplinary teams involving electonics design, PCB layout, mechanical enclosure design, thermal design, embedded SW development, and FPGA design- I designed a number of custom wireless modules and systems for clients that involved ground-up RF design as well as custom communication protocol development.

I was hired initially as an RF consultant for a specific project which turned into a multi-year effort. I ended up becoming an employee and led the company's expansion to offer wireless design services, including wireless product design, antenna design, and certification consulting. - Acquired RF equipment, tools, and set up RF lab- Built a team of RF and antenna designers, both employees and contractors- Created marketing material to promote our wireless design services- Managed customer relations for wireless and certification projects. Some example projects: * Handheld distance measurement device for golfers - Researched, designed, and built prototype system using spread sepctrum RF ranging technology at 915 MHz. This work resulted in a number of patents in the area of radio distance measurement technology. * Wireless Internet Last-mile System - Designed 2.4 GHz and 915 MHz spread spectrum radios for client who provided wireless internet service in rural areas. * Ultrasonic Tank Level Sensor - Designed analog sensor circuits and antenna system for device that measures propane level in large tanks and reports data via satellite. Design of cable television equipment- Designed RF circuitry for cable television equipment, including a new carrier recovery PLL circuit for a cable TV modulator which resulted in the successful replacement of previous problematic circuit.

RF circuit design for cordless telephones- Member of team that designed VTech's first 900 MHz CT2+ cordless telephone for German market, which became the best selling cordless phone in Germany at the time.- Designed, simulated, built, and tested RF circuits. Managed certification testing at German test labs.

Integrated Circuit Test Lab- Trained and supervised personnel in a lab that tested wafers and packaged ICs for the auto industry- Programmed and maintained IC test systems.

RF Design for Satellite and Cable TV Equipment- Was responsible for RF and analog circuit design, prototyping, and testing for products such as satellite receivers and cable television modulators.
