My professional drive is to apply my organizational skills, idealism and resourcefulness to the fields of: rural regenerative development, public and community art, environmental education & activism, ecological landscape management, self-sufficient living, and circular architecture and design. When I attended art school in the 1990s I realized that for me the societal impact of art is as important as the quality of the art. I switched studies to social cultural work so I could learn to develop public art projects and promote societal engagement in this field. The sense of engagement towards social and environmental responsibility has been my main professional interest since then and I have applied this in combination with my creativity to all the different professional roles I have had. Such as: the secretary of a municipal art committee, founder of an artist exchange project in Georgia, office manager for the Dutch circular architecture pioneers Superuse studios, manager of communication, events and volunteers in a Botanical Garden and the development of a hiking program along the Dão river. Besides the work as an organizer and manager I also always been passionate about and involved with hands-on work such as food preparation, horticulture, arboriculture and textile and nature crafts. I have worked for catering businesses, offer pruning services and sell my own craft products on an occasional basis. As a Dutch native having lived in California and now Portugal I bring a broad perspective to the projects I am involved in and I am always looking for ways to create a systemic impact. To work on a systemic level does not necessarily mean to change the whole system. Just as acupuncture*, we can develop projects that can be small acts which, by using the right tools and affecting a certain area, can impact the system.I am eager to work with people who share these interests and walk this path together.*credits to Daniel Christian Wahl for this concept.

Owner And General Manager.Moinhos Do Dao - Eco Quinta Jan 2010 - PresentViseu Area, PortugalMoinhos do Dão – Eco Quinta is a historic mill complex on the Dão river where residents, guests and participants share in the experience of living immersed in nature. The old Miller’s house, the mills and barns have been restored and now house several rustic guest and residency quarters and the terraced terrain provides space for camping. Our river beach and various areas around the quinta provide an ideal natural space for exploring and relaxing. The river valley and surrounding hills are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna like many different kinds of ferns, oak woodlands, lavender patches and animals such as the metallic-blue King Fisher bird, various raptors and river otters. The focus on living in harmony with nature plays a key role in the way life is lived at MdD and we want to share the experience with our guests and residents. We run a residency program for artists and ecologists, organize activities such as workshops and yoga sessions and are part of an environmental initiative called CuidaDão to protect and celebrate nature in the Dão valley. We offer guests services such as: a self-guided hikes, vegetables and herbs from our biological garden, in depth information about cultural trips, and information about wine tasting, to name a few. Our restaurant serves a ‘Portuguese & World Menu’ and uses produce from our garden, regional, and seasonal products for vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals
