My keen interest in nature and life prompted me to take many elective courses in geography, geology and biology during my undergraduate study at Queen’s university. It dawned on me that these disciplines are indispensable to a society’s sustainable development, since sustainability closely relates to nature, economy, human being and culture. As an environmental science major, I also realized that there are lots of research projects to undertake in sustainable development, such as mine management and soil restoration. So I chose to pursue my postgraduate studies in the environment at the University of Sydney. The internship in Department of Environmental Protection, Northeast Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. (NEPDI) left me a deep impression. Coal is still the cheapest and most reliable source of electricity in China. That is to say, as for environmental pollution control, China has a long way to go. Of course, China is making big investment in research and development of renewable energy technologies. I am eager to make an individual contribution to my country, so a graduate degree becomes a necessity. Regarding my personal skills, I am proficient in Microsoft-related software, communicate in English, and currently learning Spanish.
